Break and ABS flashing alternately

for the last few weeks, sometimes (3 times so far), the break and the ABS lights (the red ones, side by side on the panel), are flashing alternately.
If I stop, turn of the bike, and turn on again, it goes away.
Any ideas?

Mine did the same thing I found the gap between the abs senser and the triger wheel was a lil off. I also had dirt in the gap once that coused it also.

Mine did exactly the same. After looking on the forums here I checked the rear brake reservoir and added about 1mm of brake fluid and hey presto...fault cured

Add a little DOT4 to the rear reservoir - FRONT - chamber. It's located just outside the upper frame rail and the right side pannier.You will have to loosen the mid-panel on the right side to gain access.

This is rather common when the cold weather sets in. And, if you have some miles on your pads without checking the fluid level.

Mine did that when the brake fluid was a little low. Just an ounce or two low.

How's the condition of the battery? A bad battery will also cause this as I found last week.

I don't think it's the battery... I will check the fluids per recommendations.

Hi Elton , My 2002 did that last year . I put brake fluid in , that didn't help . I thought the battery was fine , ...Turns out ..not so much . Put a new battery in , and problem solved .Hope this is of help ...patric ...

I'm picking up an LT in a few days and the ABS blinking issue is there also.. Can't wait to fix it and go for a spin.

Hey Phantom,

If I read your post correctly you're are buying a bike with this problem? Can't wait to fix it?

Are you aware that this indicator can also mean your ABS system is fried? And or the ABS pump is bad?

I'd make the seller fix this before I invested!

ABS flashing

I have had the same problem for approx. 4K miles. Mine starts when I accelerate hard from any speed. Stays on till bike is turned off. Does not start again till accelerate hard again. This started after I had a rear tire replaced in Cape Girado Mo. in August. I hate to say but I am real slack about maintainance. I believe my problem is probably with the sensor gap but have been too lazy to check.

I will check the battery charge next time, before turn the bike on, and see if the lights will do that or not.
I had my battery dead couple weeks ago (Gel battery) but I recharged it and seams fine since them, but I will check it and post here.

another thing that will do this is the "blue wire". It's connector sometimes slips off. It's directly connected to the alternator near the main (thick brown) power cable that runs to the battery. The blue wire also feeds the charging electronics - after some time the battery may or may not die. You can see the blue wire if you shine a flashlight down in front of the battery.
I concur though that in most cases it's the fluid level.

Checked battery, replaced brake pads nothing worked until I add just a little fluid to the rear brake resevoir.

Elton, I think you just stated your problem. If I had a dead battery on the bike and then charged it, and then started getting the ABS wigwag light condition, the first thing I would suspect would be the battery and not the ABS sensor or the brake fluid resiviors. Too many indications lately of a low battery being the cause and mine is one of them. BTW, how old is that dead gell battery that you recharged? Anything over 3 years and I'd replace it. JMHO YMMV

That would not be good... second battery in 4 years? it's a PC620 (or 820??) suppose to be a good one for at least 3 years...

The last time it happens was in the middle of a ride, after many miles so I would guess that the battery should be full...

I will get to the break oil reservoir this weekend. Looks like I need to remove the rear side panels to get to that reservoir.

You can do it with a syringe, without taking too much off.
