2005-K1200 LT ABS Module Removal

I am sure this is not a first, but I do need some help with my LT. Good news bad news. Bad news - I screwed up while changing my battery and went to start it with charger still hooked up. Nice 'pop' and all seemed well until I turned the bike off and the ABS keep running, had to disconnect the battery to make it stop. Goods news - when running brakes work fine. Been in contact with Module Masters and they believe they can repair it because it is in the electronics of the control module.

Which brings me to ................ Have all the panels off and now need to know how to removal the module. Does it come out through the side of the frame or do you have to remove the battery box or??? Hopefully it is nor gut wrenching surgery.

So can any one help in getting me through this ordeal??? Would be greatly appreciate any and all help possible.

BTW, this was the short story. Let's just say the local BMW dealer is not very accommodating.

Thanks.

Re: 2005-K1200 LT ABS Module Removal

The battery box and the ABS box are connected so you cannot remove the one without the other. I was able to get the ABS module out from the side but the preferred method is to remove the reverser first then the ABS unit will have more room to come out.

Thanks, any pointers on removing the reverser? Like wiring disconnects or placement to minimize disassembly, etc.

Re: 2005-K1200 LT ABS Module Removal

THANK YOU SIR, not exactly easy or smooth but it worked. Unit is out and will be on its way to Module Masters for repairs.

It's getting to be prime riding weather here and Florida and I want to get "back on the road again".

Re: 2005-K1200 LT ABS Module Removal

Glad you were able to remove the ABS module. Module Masters were not able to look at my unit so I had to rebuild it myself.

Are you sure you want to bypass the ABS as these units are rebuildable. Can you describe what symptoms you are experiencing that makes you want to bypass the system?
