Thoughts on this 2004 K1200LT

What do you guys think about this bike on Craigslist? Or should I spend a few more grand on a 2008 with 9k miles?

Thanks

Re: Thoughts on this 2004 K1200LT

Well it looks clean. But you are buying a 15 year old bike, and most important would be any service history that you can find. There are loads of things that it will need, if they have not been done. 46K is nothing for a bike of that age. But if it hasn't had steel brake lines, quick disconnects for the fuel lines, and other crucial maintenance, your low price-I think 3400 is decent-will be eaten quickly with other issues. The backrest and pegs are standard upgrades.

Does the seller give you any idea of the history of the bike?

In either case, this forum will give you just about all you need to keep it going for years to come. I have a 2000, with 207K and leave for Jasper and Banff next week. They are great machines.

Let us know what you do

It still has the original brake lines so figure $300 if you do it yourself or $1000 if you pay a dealer to do it. That 04 was most likely MADE in 2003 because my 05 was made in April of 2004. Fuel and brake lines are now 16 years old.

My August 2004 was the first of the upgraded models.
If you can afford it definitely go for the face lift and lower mileage.

They always say the last production is the best because all the niggles are sorted by then.
