Fuel pump keeps running

I did a search but a quick look didn't show what info I need.
I started putting the bike back together and connected the fuel lines and the pump electrical connector.
As soon as the connector made up the pump started running and keeps running. Running with no key in the ignition so the bike is obviously turned off.
I did see in another post about the pump running due to blowing off a hose in the tank and I did replace the fuel filter. I will take the tank back off and check the filter lines.
But why would the pump run with the ignition switch off?

Re: Fuel pump keeps running

There is an auxiliary power connector stubbed in on the LT right side. Same plug type, always hot and polarity is backwards right there at the fuel pump. You have the wrong connector on the pump. Look for the other connector in that area and switch them.

Re: Fuel pump keeps running

That was it. Thanks.
What wiring guru in his right mind would put similar plugs for different items in the same area? I'm no electrical engineer and I know not to do that.
Once I got the correct plug on it didn't run until the ignition switch was on and then for only couple seconds. So the tank doesn't have to come off.

That isn't the only place. The injector plugs are the same as the purge valve solenoid and it is not uncommon for one to swap an injector with the purge valve if you have it all apart at the same time and are not watching closely. Runs very poorly like that.

Re: Fuel pump keeps running

the other plug is for the power outlet that goes on the right side. Someone I, will not say who, did the same thing even though that person had put an outlet on that side. I marked mine with a small cable tie.
