Advice on Unhooking battery

I have never unhooked this LT battery but I find I need to get it out of the way in order to get to the inboard control module port for bleeding procedure.

I have the alarm programmed to be defaulted to off. After I rehook the battery up is it going to give me immobilizer grief such as what I have read on this forum?

Should be no problem but ALWAYS the negative first & connect it last.

And donít have anything flammable nearby as the LT likes to spark when the battery is reconnected.

Should not need to remove the battery otherwise you will not be able to use the ABS unit to pump out fluid.

Ricky -- I know what you mean because I just did a fresh brake fluid bleed procedure on my 04. I stopped short of doing a full ABS control circuit flush for that very reason, didn't want to pull the battery. I went with just bleeding by using the long post bleeder (easy to get at). I wasn't replacing brake lines so didn't have a lot of air to worry about. However, from reading your earlier posts you're doing new brake lines and need a full flush procedure. In that case, since DC power is only needed for the wheel circuit flush procedure, you could probably do that first, then pull the battery for the control circuits flush

Thanks . I already did the front and rear wheel circuit flush procedure using the servos but I am sufficiently unclear now that I can trust those two actions if I am doing the abs bleed process after doing those. (scratching head). I also found JZ's supplemental document and have that out on the table, lol, so lots of things bouncing in my head at the moment, lol.

You should be OK,..Sailor mentioned on one of your posts (I think), the control and wheel circuits are completely separate. No fluid ever mixes between the two. As a backup, go ahead and remove the battery and use some jumper cables if needed for DC power.

Yes, do whichever circuits you wish in any order you wish. I believe that BMW even has a different schedule for wheel (more frequent) vs. control. I think control can be done every other year whereas the wheel circuits were annual as I recall.

Thank you all for the help! I will probably start this sometime this week, busy busy with a new job. Too bad these don't have obd2-like plugs because I have one of those devices where you can retain your memory during the process. I think this would leave the alarm happy even if it is defaulted to off, lol. I may still be able to get to the inboard port, going to study on it a bit more tonight.

Hi, I change the brake fluid, both wheel & control on my K1200LT / Hannigan rig every year. I take the battery out to get to the inside control , just take the wires off & 2 screws that hold the battery in. Put the battery back in to do the wheels. If you have the alarm on your bike have the bob on the ready. When I turn the key on after having the battery out the alarm goes off, So, hit the bob & all is well.

I did remove the alarm last year , so it is less to mess with doing the brake fluid. The only time I used the alarm / bob was that once a year .
