fuel gasket shrinkage causing leak

After the fuel filter replacement on my 2000 LT, I went to put gas in it to fire it up and the fuel gasket was leaking like crazy.

I took the tank off again and realized the problem. My gasket appears to have shrunk. I tried my best to center it before screwing on the plastic sealing ring, but an edge would always fall down in.

I measured it at 95mm. It seems that a new one is around 99mm.

16142347285 GASKET - D=99MM $42.48

I'm not too thrilled about the $43 price I'm seeing. Anybody experience this shrinkage and/or know of a cheaper solution to the OEM part?

You are getting pretty resourceful. Good find and price, I think I'll order one just for grins.

Re: fuel gasket shrinkage causing leak

The new gasket from Boneyard works great. This pic shows how I could actually fit the old gasket inside the new one. The old one was pretty hardened as well.
