Brakes, Anybody else run into this?

Helping my friend replace front pads on his '01. Has linked brakes, but brembo calipers. He ordered brakes for an '01, didn't fit.

His calipers/pads same as my '99, so ordered for 99-00. Pads came and they were right size. We compared part #'s listed here for '01 and first (wrong) ones were the correct #.

Is this a changeover issue? New system, old calipers. Has anyone else ran into similar in '01 model? I think his manufacture date is 11-00.

Are you sure he has Integral brakes? The '99-'01 bikes with Brembo stamped on the calipers are ABSII, but not Integral. The '02 and later bikes have Integral brakes and BMW stamped on the calipers. By the way, Integral refers not only to the power brake assist, but also larger front rotors and redesigned calipers. Also, holding down either brake would give the tell-tale whine as the servo assist kicked in.

So I'd say that the earlier front brake pads are exactly what you need.

Note that non-US bikes often saw upgrades a year before. So a Euro, Australian, or Canadian LT would have the Integral brakes on an '01 model, but not here in the States.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

If the bike is an 01 he does not have linked brakes.

If the caliper says Bembo and not BMW he does not have linked brakes...

My understanding Chris, has always been, if the caliper is marked "Brembo" the brakes are the non-integral. I would say late '01's may have the "BMW" calipers with the integral system, but not all 01's. Main thing is you got the right pads. Even many dealers can't pick the right parts.
