EHCS

I would like to convert my EHCS to a manual center stand. Has anyone done this? The EHCS is a pain in the aftermarket.

There are usually some available on Ebay. Changing it over should not be difficult. I am working on going the other way.

Not sure why this is a feature that is not appreciated other than it not working properly and needing a rebuild (not difficult to do). Can you elaborate on why/how it is being a pain?

My 06 LT EHCS was needing a rebuild. 1.5 weeks with JZeiler and all is now good.

I read from others in this forum that the unit last about 5 years. Seals leak, and brushes in the motor wear out. I just pulled out the actuator from my 2005 K1200LT. I'll ship it to jzeiler for rebuilding this week.

With only 4 posts to date . . . I believe you should hang around here a little more and ask questions you will get a ton on input and advice.

This site has demonstrated for the past 18 years a willingness to educate, help and console those who have issues and really step up to solving the simple tasks of keeping these bikes running in tip top shape Every issue raised here has been asked and commented on many many times and with a "little help from your new friends" you can gain knowledge like nowhere else!

Rebuilding and refurbishing an EHCS is a fairly straight forward mechanical task - ping John Zeiler if your not up to the task. John can rebuild one for you or walk you through the issues f you are up to the challenge - John is retired with all sorts of time on his hands

However you could take off the motor and wiring components - get handy with a welder add significant bracing to the stand for a foot lever. I do not believe you can use a stand from an earlier model, without modifying it, since the frame geometry is slightly different as it changed in 2005 and I believe its a bit lower to the ground. Others might chime in on this assertion.

In any case good luck in your quest . . .

I don't know the statistics, but my LT is 10 years old and approaching 58,000. I use my EHCS every time I ride my LT as I park it on the center-stand in my garage so it takes up less width. It is one of the few systems on my LT that hasn't yet failed. Knock on wood.

The key to longevity is how clean you keep the shaft on the cylinder. There is a wiper to remove dirt but the stock one is fragile and wears out. Then dirt gets to the shaft seal and the leak starts. 10 -15 ml of oil gone and she will falter on a lift.

For the original poster - easy to retro fit as the bolt pattern is the same for all years on the cradle mount to the transmission. There are some safety interlocks that are lost when you retrofit, but is you use a push button and relay to operate it you should not have an issue.
