IABS 3 rebuilds

Well. While I'm working thru solving my IABS 3 module problem and weighing my options. I contacted RH Electronics in Germany. $911.00 to rebuild. That's not including shipping and tax. YIKES! Nope i'll pass. So I called Module Masters and asked if they are ever going to come up with the rebuild kit for IABS 3. The women I spoke with said. They've finally got the last component. The motors. And are now testing them for durability. She said effectively looking at Late Fall for program to roll out. They are thinking $750ish range.

Re: IABS 3 rebuilds

Yes, was told the same thing a couple of weeks back by MM which is hopeful. I've been full hydraulic for a few years, and have removed/ by passed my pump completely with Spiegler lines. If they get the repair going, I will need to decide to repair or not. Love the ease of hydraulic, but wouldn't mine having ABS.

Re: IABS 3 rebuilds

Do you find the straight hydraulic brakes too Sensitive? What I mean is. Is it too easy to lock up the tires during a panic stop? I've rode for almost 24 years without ABS. This is the 1st bike I've had with ABS. It is nice when needed.

Re: IABS 3 rebuilds

Have never locked them up accidentally, but did one time (rear) on purpose to know how it would feel. I did not like the servo assist brakes (power assist), interlocking front/rear and brake bleed routine, though each served a purpose I know. I don't miss any of those currently, but everyone is different. YMMV and good luck with your decision.

Did you Just plug the Pump off and bypass with lines?

Re: IABS 3 rebuilds

No, full removal of pump (would need to be removed for a MM repair later anyway). I also removed all hard lines (kept them for future install if desired). Installed custom ordered Spiegler SS brake lines throughout.

Re: IABS 3 rebuilds

I'm elbows deep in my iABS rebuild now. Unit is on its way back from RH Electronics. Doing the R&R myself, I'm at ~$1,800 right now, all in.
