crazy sudden tire issue

was on holiday on vancouver island when noticed a serious sudden front tire issue.
it appears to of happened in 1 day it is all the way around the tire.
i am guessing belts coming apart managed to milk it home.
anyone seen this before(tire is an avon)

Re: crazy sudden tire issue

I looked hard at your photos and the use of the clamp to show flat areas. From where I sit it looks like a worn out tire with flat areas and cupping. How many miles on it?

I change your tires $50, you buy them on the web.

Re: crazy sudden tire issue

Looks like the tyre is duel compound and the style of riding has caused the off centre parts of the tread to wear out quicker than the central part of the tyre. Had it with Bridgstone tyres on another bike where the previous owners spent a lot of time cranked over enjoying going around bends.

Re: crazy sudden tire issue

That's what my front tires look like when they are done. Not unusual for the telelever equipped BMWs.

Re: crazy sudden tire issue

My Avon front tyre loked the same after 10 000 km
I suppose it is normal.

Re: crazy sudden tire issue

Can't say I haven't had a tire that looked like that towards the end of it's life (street bike only, my KLR tires never did that, but they were a different thing altogether).
One thing to check for is tire pressure. Even a small pressure loss can cause similar effect. The Bridgestone Battleax tends to do it the most that I've seen.

Re: crazy sudden tire issue

If you enlarge the photos it looks like the rubber is cracked & starting to delaminate.

Re: crazy sudden tire issue

This might be a wear pattern due to a few things in possible combination: under inflation, breaking in corners and heavily loaded bike.

Ask me how I know

BTW - what is the age of the tire per Dave's point!!

I wonder are the tires rated for a heavy bike like the LT.
