New LT Owner Seeking Info On iABS Concerns

I apologize in advance since my search has addressed this topic in some regard.

I am a new 2002 K1200LT owner of a bike that has been sitting for several years. 140,000 miles and excellent service history. It was given to me so the price is right. I have a long list of things to do before getting her back on the road. I do have concerns pertaining to the iABS (ABS III) system on this motorcycle and am hoping you good folks would offer some useful feedback.

My search on this topic has me concerned to the point of considering to remove it entirely before buying Spiegler lines to fit it.

This will be a sunny day 2 up machine for me and my wife. I would not wish to remove a safety feature on the bike, but if this system is unreliable as some have reported, I can't see leaving a potentially dangerous braking system in place.

I would really appreciate the input from those who have experience with this system on their own machine regarding these questions...

1) How many miles/years are you folks getting from a properly maintained system with yearly fluid flushes?

2) Is brake modulation vague or difficult to operate smoothly on a properly functioning system compared to a standard hydraulic one?

3) Are there any owners who prefer the performance of a non ABS/assisted braking system on these bikes vs the iABS, or is removing the system more of a necessary evil once it fails and is not cost effective to repair?

I have been running mine for 13 years with regular flushes. I believe it give you a better than even chance it will continue working. I love the system as it brought me to a rapid and safe stop from 65 MPH, two and a fully loaded Bushtec trailer when a deer jumped out in front of us on NF25 near Mt St. Helens three years ago. I could never go back to a regular braking system even though I ran them for years.
