Red face Brake failure light falshes and warning light stays on.

I've posted this earlier but can't seem to find my thread on this, anyway I am unable to figure out why the brake failure light comes on (2002 K1200LT), all is full of fluid, this started when the front brake line was replaced and the guy that had it before me didn't add fluid in the frt. reservoir, after I filled it and bled the system the light went out and about 3 weeks later it came back on , I keep finding bleeders in places I haven't seen before, is there a specific way of bleeding the system if so does anyone know the procedure, I know you go from farthest from MC to Shortest but not sure on the ABS. Also sometimes it stays off for several miles before it comes on and sometimes it comes on right away.

Rocky, here is a video specific to your version of ABS with the dual reservoir located on the right side at the front of the passenger seat.

having the funnel referenced in the first post you made on this makes the job much easier.

Re: Brake failure light falshes and warning light stays on.

In a nut shell there are two separate circuits for both the front and the rear and fluid does not go between them. Front control has a reservoir on the handle bar and it is bled at the ABS. The front wheel circuit reservoir is the rear half of the reservoir under the pillion seat and it is bled at the front calipers. The front half of that reservoir is shared between the rear control (bled at ABS) and the rear wheel (bled at the rear caliper). The pillion seat reservoir has both chambers monitored for fluid level ad it is very sensitive to a small drop in fluid.

The attachments show the F and R control circuit ports on the ABS and for a proper bleed do 1,2 3 and 1 again on both the front and rear.

The control circuits can be bled with the key off. The wheel circuits require the key on.

Are you sure both containers are full that are located under the seat? One of those containers is difficult to see and get to. For me, I just had to top up both of the containers under the seat to get the light to go away and the flashing lights haven't been back since.

I found an 02 k1200lt for a friend, ABS lights were blinking alternately. The dealer (honda) thought it needed $2200 servo and just wanted to unload it.

He drove it home 300 miles with the lights blinking. We took off the seat and added less than $1.00 brake fluid. All is good 1700 miles and smiles so far.

37k miles, loaded.$1500 Even came with a super nice $170 BMW drink holder, J-pegs, Bead seat pad, Cover, pretty new tires.

The same with me with my 2005, which only has one small round container under the seat.

The strange thing is that apparently and visually, this container doesn´t have any electrical connections leading to or from it.

It doesn't. The sensors are on the reservoirs on top of the ABS unit itself on the 05 and up. On the 02 - 04, there is a dual reservoir in the place where your single round one is and that one does have sensors.

Understood, but what tells the computer that the fluid level is low ?

There are floats in the ABS units built in reservoirs and connectors on top of the floats.

JZ has the ABS reservoirs covered for the wheel circuits and how the computer measures them. There are no sensors on the round reservoir or on the handle bar reservoirs so they could go dry and you would not know it until that happened or until you do a visual inspection.

Again, understood, and thanks to both of you, but I still do not understand how, by just topping up my reservoir from in-between MIN and MAX to just above MAX, solved my problem.

When you asked about the Ion bleeder, I assumed you were working on an impulse drive.

Re: Brake failure light falshes and warning light stays on.

Just like the 05 + link Voyager posted 123 and then 1 again for a proper bleed only use the diagram in my earlier post (#3) as yours is oriented different than the 05 diagram and use the F1, F2, F3 and R1, R2, and R3.
