Color selection by year

I'm looking for a cross reference for the body colors that were available for each LT model year. I thought it was on the site, and I've been searching but I can't find it. Does anyone have this info or know where to find it?

LT colors, year by year

Combing through posts using the search engine of the old forum and this one, I've compiled the list below. Notice a few years have more than 3 colors listed. That's because BMW often releases bikes that are painted a leftover color from the previous year. (Some of these colors may be in error due to the poster not knowing the real color name of their LT.)
  • 1999 - Canyon Red, Basalt Gray, Champagne
  • 2000 - Canyon Red, Basalt Gray, Pacific Blue
  • 2001 - Mauve, Night Black, Toscana Green, Pacific Blue
  • 2002 - Night Black, Pacific Blue, Mauve, Toscana Green, Titan Silver
  • 2003 - Titan Silver, Anthracite Metallic, Impala Brown, Night Black
  • 2004 - Impala Brown, Night Black, Titan Silver
  • 2005 - Ocean Blue Metallic, Graphite Metallic, Light Yellow Metallic
  • 2006 - Ocean Blue Metallic, Magnesium Black Graphite, Storm Gray Metallic
  • 2007 - Night Black, Biarritz Blue Metallic, Storm Gray Metallic

Champagne was offered for many years, up to '03 or '04, I think.

Excellent work. If this gets "nailed" to 100% accuracy you should post it as an article or in HoW or wherever else appropriate.

2005's Graphite Metallic is officially "Dark Graphite Metallic", if that helps.

I've never seen a conclusive list of the colors year by year, that's why I did a little homework. And no, I don't mind being corrected or folks "getting picky" about the ofeeshial color names. "Basalt Grey Metallic" and "Dark Graphite Metallic" it is!

Perhaps I should start a new thread to get more attention? That way we could finally assemble this list once and for all. I think it would be interesting to see just how many colors bled over to years that the color actually wasn't offered. For instance, I know there are a lot of '03 Night Black LTs out there, and that color wasn't offered in '03.

Now, let's add the BMW paint color code to this list. One-stop shopping for all color-related questions.

... and then you could add the seat color choices that were available with each paint color, a well-lit photo of each bike in the above colors, ...

Champagne...

...was indeed offered for several years as Ken Meese pointed out. I know it was a color choice at least through 2002, maybe more.

I did find at http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/information.htm the annual color schemes and seat colors for all models...only through the 2000 model year. In '99 and '00 the seats were all black.

Until the changes to the LT in 2005, all seats were black. Beginning with the 2005 US model year, gray was introduced along with black.

Exclamation K1200LT Paint Color List: ver 3.0 - (added paint codes)

K1200LT - Colors by Year

1999 - Canyon Red, Basalt Grey Metallic, Champagne Metallic
2000 - Canyon Red, Basalt Grey Metallic, Champagne Metallic, Pacific Blue Metallic
2001 - Mauve Pearl, Night Black, Toscana Green Metallic, Pacific Blue Metallic, Champagne Metallic
2002 - Night Black, Pacific Blue Metallic, Toscana Green Metallic, Mauve Pearl, Titan Silver Metallic
2003 - Titan Silver Metallic, Anthracite Metallic, Impala Brown Metallic, Night Black
2004 - Impala Brown Metallic, Night Black, Titan Silver Metallic
2005 - Ocean Blue Metallic, Dark Graphite Metallic, Light Yellow Metallic
2006 - Ocean Blue Metallic, Magnesium Black Graphite, Storm Gray Metallic
2007 - Night Black, Biarritz Blue Metallic, Storm Gray Metallic

(BMW only officially offers 3 colors per year. But many Beemers are shipped over here painted colors from previous years. Champagne Metallic and Night Black are probably the two greatest examples of these 'anomalies'.)

K1200LT - Paint Codes
Anthracite Metallic (397)
Biarritz Blue Metallic (847)
Basalt Gray Metallic (410)
Canyon Red Metallic (343)
Champagne Metallic (417)
Dark Graphite Metallic (919)
Impala Brown Metallic (418)
Light Yellow Metallic (376)
Magnesium Black Graphite (N01)
Mauve Pearl (489)
Night Black (668)
Ocean Blue Metallic (947)
Pacific Blue Metallic (441)
Storm Gray Metallic (N02)
Titan Silver Metallic (354)
Toscana Green Metallic (492)

Trim colors / codes (i.e. dash etc.)
Magnesium Metallic (957)

As expected, I found a few conflicts regarding paint code numbers. I did the best that I could. Perhaps BMW used different paint codes for the same color from year to year.

Hope this helps...

Not wanting to start any trouble, but were these colors the choices worldwide? Were the choices the exact same whether you were in the Europe, North America, or Far East markets?

I think a disclaimer should also be added to the list stating that there were some other limited colors, and colors held over from one year to the next until they ran out of that paint, as I've heard thru the years. This way, any prospective buyer that runs across an uncharted color for a certain year, won't call the seller a liar. (A lot of newbies visiting our site could use this list and think of it as gospel.)

That is a valid point, George. However, the first major difference between different market areas is the way model years are counted. This list is made "the American way". On this side of the pond we are one year behind (as always ) and for instance my bike is a 2004 model (bought in Feb 04) although the Americans call it ´05.
I don't know if the factory had any different colors on the same model year in different market areas but I strongly doubt it. What happened to the "leftover" bikes and how and under what model year they were sold is another story.

Question Re: Color selection by year

This is my first post. I bought my first bike in 35 years a couple months ago from the great guys at Ride West BMW in Seattle, specifically Roman Lemeshkov, a '99 LT with almost 55k on it. I'm almost to 58k. It's been a tall learning curve, including a pair of slo-mo drops early on, but I've grown to love it.

Question: I bought this thing pretty roughed up, especially the Starboard bag. With the expert help of those among you, I managed to dismount it and took it to my reliable autobody shop of 25+ years. They asked for the paint code. With the help of the trusty owner's Technical Manual I located the paint color ID tag under the seat: 741.

I don't see a 741 on any list here, so I am wondering just what it is that I have. Note that from the descriptions here, "Champagne Metallic" should be correct. But on the list it is denoted as 417. I am slightly dyslexic, so I just went to the garage and double checked it on my bike to make sure.

Of further concern is that I apparently have something of a two-tone affair going on. My bags are light metallic gold, and the rest of the bike is that sort of Lexus mauvish color, a very light silver/violet tinge.

The shop, using code 741, painted the most damaged bag. It now matches the bike pretty well, but looks nothing like the Port side bag.

Does anyone out there have a two tone LT such as I've described? If so, do you know the paint code number for the bags? Has anyone come across a 741 code?

Thanks for listening. This site has been a tremendous help and inspiration to me.

Hi, Bill - don't know if this will help you, but I found a color code page from years past that identifies the *741* paint code as the "color scheme" as opposed to the paint color. Click here for a look at the chart where I found the info. From there, you might find more info relating to the paint codes, colors, and schemes used by BMW. Good luck.

Hi Bill,

I don't go into the color codes, but a friend of mine used to own a -99 Champagne LT. He told me (and has even showed on many examples) how the side case lids of those bikes were really different color than the rest of the bike.
It really looks kinda funny because the color should be either exactly same or much more different. As they are now, it just looks as if somebody made a mistake with color matching.
So if I understand right, your newly painted sidecase lid is now closer to your bike's color and the other lid is different.
If I were you, I would paint the other lid the same as the newly painted one and get done with it...

Re: Color selection by year

Thanks, Pozo. Just wondered if this paint scheme is something rare, an anomoly, a collector's item, a mistake, etc., BEFORE I have the other bag painted.

I have a '72 Les Paul Custom. It used to be black. When I had it rebuilt and painted cloudburst blue and white I was accused of sacriledge. Don't want to show up at a rally and possibly suffer the same fate.

I always described my 2002 "Toscana Green" LT as "Baby Sh*t Green".

But I guess you wouldn't find "BSG" in any of the sales brochures....

Naw Bill, you will 100% sure not be kicked around with your color MATCHED side case lids.. . I bet many others might wonder (with envy) that how come the painter at the factory did not make the same "mistake" with YOUR bike as he had done with all the other Champagne bikes.

After the paint job YOUR bike will the collector's item, I would say.

The '04s were only available for part of the '04 season, and they were available in Impala Brown. Used to work w/ someone who had one. There was virtually no difference from the '03.

Re: LT colors, year by year

I think 2004 - model has Anthracite Metallic color as well. (It shows up at www.colorrite.com as well)

Re: Color selection by year

Hello all,

Just wanted to add some interesting info to this thread. Last fall I bought a Unigo trailer from a senior member of this site however the color did not match my 2007 gray K1200LT. So in the process of getting it re-painted I found out from my dealer that they don't sell paint, and that I should go to a website called www.colorrite.com to get what I was looking for. There you can punch in the byke brand/model and year and it will give you the OEM paint code. I was able to go to my local paint store and they were able to make me a quart of the stuff....the code for mine was 8552 (storm gray). I tried diferrent model year and all the codes appear to be there. My cost locally was about half of that on the website. So I think it might be worth checking out if you're planning on doing some painting to match the OEM color of your ride.
