Bizarre Alarm issue
2003 K1200LT, factory alarm.
Bought the bike about three years ago. Previous owner didn't have a remote alarm fob when I bought the bike.
Purchased two used remote fob's, got the alarm codes from my local BMW dealer, and successfully programmed them.
The alarm has been working fine for about two years.
Not sure if this is related but the "low" pitch horn failed about a month ago.
(We have two horns up front, one high pitch and one low pitch horn).
Sounds very "tinney" when only high is working.
Seems like that was about the same time the alarm started acting up.
I've replaced that faulty horn. Now both horn's are working well.
Will try and describe what's going on with the alarm.
I use to get two distinctive tones (high / high) when activating the alarm.
I'd also get two tones (high / low) when deactivating.
Now I don't get any activating or de-activating tones.
The turn signals still flash and the LED up front will flash when I activate the alarm.
Soon after activating, the LED stop's flashing and a faint sounding alarm siren goes off (as if the alarm has been activated).
It's no louder that someone whispering to you. More noticeable if I open the seat and put my ear near the siren.
When de-activating, the turn signals flash, the faint siren sound stops, then the LED cycles in a 5 flash, pause, 5 flash, repeat..
Turn on the key and the LED flashes two times, stops, and it's ready to start.
Very strange, bizarre behavior to me.
I've tried disconnecting the battery for a few days.
Tried pulling the horn fuse (which btw, also lowers the volume of the faint alarm sound when I pull it.)
Hoping there might be a way to try and reset the alarm module.
Read through all the alarm manuals and write-ups I could find but none mentioned a reset.
If you've read though this and have any advice to pass on, I'd appreciate it.
I know a lot of you have bypassed or don't use the alarm but I like having it.
Would like to try and reset the one installed now. Next step would be to buy a used alarm on eBay.
