First Ride

I finally got off of my crutches and was able to take the bike out for a ride. Rode 175 miles of mountain two lane roads, and was really impressed with the way this bike handles. The transmission shifts as smooth as any bike I have ridden. I was expecting to have to shift more in low speed corners than I did. Just have to twist the throttle and it accelerates very quickly. The brakes are also the best I have ever used on a bike. Because of the big boot I am having to wear on my right foot I was not able to use the rear brake, but was very comfortable with using just the front brake lever. I am looking forward to getting out on the interstate and riding a couple hundred miles. Right now I am really pleased that I purchased this bike.

Re: First Ride

Glad you are mending well and again, welcome to the forum. They are very fun to ride and keep the RPM up in the corners, they love to run around 5 to 6K.

Re: First Ride

If you like the ride now (and don't have a passenger often) loose the top trunk (+35 lbs.) and you'll LOVE the ride!

As a noob to the LT, you may not be aware that there are Shift rod extenders, Brake peddle extenders and foot peg lowering options to allow for our big feet and more importantly, our comfort....

Let google be your friend, my friend.

Re: First Ride

You didn't say what year but if it is a late 2001 up you can do all the braking from the lever only as they are linked.

Re: First Ride

After riding v twins for the last 15 years, it just does not seem right to keep it in that rpm range. I will get used to soon.

Re: First Ride

I did a lot of research on this bike before I purchased it. The linked brakes and ABS was one of the main reasons I purchased it. That is the only reason I rode it, not being able to use the rear brakes at all would have kept me off of it for another six to eight weeks, when hopefully this broken foot heals.

It took me some getting used to also but when riding with others and trying to keep up, I was burning my brakes off the bike and they weren't even touching theirs. Once I learned that you can't hurt it and to keep the RPM up, I have a much easier time hanging with the pack and my brakes like me a lot more

Re: First Ride

As bmwcoolk1200 stated. On curves/ mountain roads. Keep the RPM up around 5k to 6 . It really is an eye opener how nimble and kwik this bike is on twisty roads.
