Question Re: For Sale: 2001 K1200LT $4000.

I am confused... Which is it?

"I am selling the 2001 K1200, with 21,300 miles on it"

"201,300 Miles"

Not at this time. I need to recover from the double knee surgery (I am only 45) and my wife has given me permission to replace it down the road with an upgraded model. I love riding the K, as I only ride one up, but the weight of this thing is brutal on my knees now. Not sure which model I will look for but I am sticking with BMW.

Ahh. Well, I wish you a speedy recovery. Good luck with your next bike. Sounds like an RT might be in your future.

My knee issue was a problem with LT, its weight and high center of gravity. I went to RT and am very happy, back to riding as often as possible again. I have a 30" inseam reach and that works well for me, as peg reach and seating position is comfortable. Road performance and the RT's ability to carve out the roads, especially here in W NC mountains is great, and a confidence building experience for sure.. Sometimes better ti look forward with eyes open, not back.

Re: For Sale: 2001 K1200LT $4000.

I noticed that you installed the "johns chip stage 6", was wondering if you left the CCP (yellow plug under the rear case) in or did you pull it out?

Re: For Sale: 2001 K1200LT $4000.

To be honest, I have not seen the CCP plug under the case. I just had the case off yesterday to put the rack back on and there was no yellow plug. I did ask John (one of many questions) about making any adjustments and he told me no. So I put the chip in and immediately noticed the difference in idle speed and smoothness. Not sure if it helps.

In a recent thread, I posed a question to tje OP that made its way back to " John" about the CCP and the answer was that he modifies all maps in the chip so try both with and without the CCP and see which one works better for you. I would expect if you get any benefit from John's chip, you would get some both with and without the CCP installed and it may vary by user as to how much in either configuration.

Re: For Sale: 2001 K1200LT $4000.

For what its worth I have bought and sold many bikes on eBay and would not hesitate to sell a BMW motorcycle based on the following:
- the very large audience
- quality of buyers I have run into - the BMW crowd!
- sold very fast
- sold in Buy It Now format - so there is no price haggling
- took a very large amount of well lit, high quality, detail pictures - was trying to excite a Buyer - did not care to attract shoppers!!

Bought
2007 - K1300GT was located in New York (MaxBMW)
2007 - R1200GS was located in New Orleans
2007 - K1200GT with Side Car was located in Waterloo, IA
2009 - K12000LT was located in Boise, ID
2016 - R1200GSAW was located in Dover, TN

Sold
2007 - K1300GT sold to a buyer in Columbus, OH - sold in two weeks
2007 - R1200GS sold to a buyer in Atlanta, GA - sold in 5 days
2007 - K1200GT with Side Car sold to a buyer in Lebanon, OH - sold in one day
2002 - K12000LT sold to a buyer in Los Angeles, CA - sold in 10 days

And I never has an issue - paid $125 (flat fee) on eBay each time I sold
I sell lots of stuff on Craigslist but have never bothered to sell the bike - mostly shoppers and bargain hunters - wrong crowd!

So if I was you I would post on eBay as it cost you nothing to list
Not all that many bikes have been sold here in the K1200LT as compared to eBay plus the majority of visitors here are already owners

Good luck with your next bike, your knees and selling a very low mileage K1200LT

Jerry:
My advice to to you, coming from a guy with 3 years on an arthroplastic knee is keep your LT. You will be a new man 6 months after the surgery. I had just about given up my BMWs before my replacement. I could only ride my HD and my T-Bird so I could extend my legs out.

I'm sure glad I didn't give up my BMWs! The new knee(s) will most likely do the same for you. I was 51 when I got mine. Being young you will heal fast, as long as you are diligent about the therapy.

Think about it.

I assumed you are getting total knee replacements, correct me if I am wrong.

Re: For Sale: 2001 K1200LT $4000.

I originally bought the LT on a whim, as it was a great price and low mileage. I knew there would be upkeep items that would be expensive and I was prepared for those. The trade off, with the Mrs., is to get a newer bike with less upkeep so I am not up and down on the concrete. It's, in MHO, a win/win/loss. I win with new knees, I win with a new bike, but I lose because I know what I am selling is a great bike. A second option is to get that wave pool I have always wanted to put in the man cave, and then buy a new bike after that...then it's a win-cubed/loss.

AGREE! I had bone-on-bone on my right knee and after a November surgery six years ago I was off to Nova Scotia in the Spring. I was 64 at the time of the surgery. Worked hard with the PT to regain the flexibility. I've never looked back!
