I need to know if all LTs take the same Shocks and can a 02 seat fit on the newer LTs. I got hit in the rear on the freeway Friday afternoon and I am afraid the Insurance well total her out. I may need to be looking for a new to me LT in the near future . I was stopped and got knocked about 10 ft. up against a pickup truck rear wheel well. Never fell over. I have a stiff neck and sore leg but thats all the damage I have thank god!! Jim

Good to hear you're ok. Sorry, I don't know the answer to your Q.

Same here. No clue on the question, but I'm glad you're OK. Being rear ended is my biggest fear.

Sorry to hear that. Glad you are OK. Yes shocks are the same and all seats will fit on newer LTs. You can make newer seats fit on older bikes but you have to cut tupperware and mounts.

Re: info

Glad you are OK. I looked up the parts listing on the Morton's BMW web site Shop OEM BMW motorcycle parts from Morton's BMW and it shows a different part number for the rear shock and spring assembly between a 2002 and 2007 KLT but the same part number for the front shock between a 2002 and 2007 KLT. The difference in rear part numbers could be the shock or spring or both but it only shows as an assembly and stickers for over a grand. I'd suggest you call your local deal to confirm. This might also be a great time to consider an aftermarket shock or if money is tight, there are options to chase down a lightly used shock but you'll definitely be at risk for reliability.

As to the seats, I assume you must have a broken seat pan?? If it is just the cover that is easily solved with a recover and new padding. To your question on if you can swap seats between a newer (2004 and up) and an older KLT, what I have heard is there are differences but if you are willing to employ a dremel on some of the plastic you may be able to make it fit. If the seat pan is broken you might just want to find a used one off of eBay and if necessary have it recovered by one of the many shops that people on this forum have used. Great opportunity to upgrade in comfort. I had mine done by Bill Mayer Saddles and couldn't be happier with the results.

Good luck!

Re: info

The difference was in the valving on the later shock thus different PN. The later ones are much better but they all fit 99-2009.

Re: info

Glad you're ok and sorry to hear about your '02. You didn't indicate what your '02's seat and shocks were. I'm assuming they are aftermarket upgrades instead of OEM parts that you'd like to transfer to your replacement bike.

Once you find out more on the status of your bike and insurance settlement, there are a number of later model LTs on the market in varying condition and options/upgrades available throughout the US and may be a few in the SoCal area to select from. In lieu of transferring your parts onto another bike on which they may or may not be a direct fit, you could always begin your quest for the replacement bike, holding onto your old bike's salvageable parts until you have found the ideal replacement.

I had mine listed a while back on eBay, but let it expire and haven't gotten around to re-listing it. It's a black '07 in excellent condition, with less than 46K miles, Garmin 590LM with TPMS, Russell Day Long, PIAAs, Yacugar shocks, Spieglers, auxiliary handlebar mirrors (BMW RS), full luggage set, Fix-It-Before-It-Breaks top case latch kit, new in-tank fuel lines and Jiffy Tite QDs, brand new Metzler front tire and good reinforced Bridgestone rear (with additional spare) etc. and located only about 50 miles from you. Many of the guys that attended the '15 CCR in Couer d'Alene that frequent this forum have seen it, as it was last year's CCR maintenance demonstration bike in the hotel conference room. (I bought a '16 GTLE and can't justify keeping two heavyweight touring bikes.) PM if interested.

It's the people

It's the people that have always made this forum so helpful and interesting. Even though I now ride a GTL and generally frequent the K1600 site, I still like to come here from time to time.

Good luck on the "new" ride.... I'll be out in your area in a few weeks, but not on my bike. Jumping at Perris. I've never been to Elsinora, but hear it's another great place to jump !
