Well, the transporter finally delivered my 2002 KLT. I spent the morning cleaning her up and inspecting for obvious problem areas (damage, leaks, etc..). After finding no problems, I inflated the tires to the prescribed 42F/48R and took her for a spin.
All I can say is Whoa!
What a difference from my R1200GS (of course!). I have been so used to riding a tall, 500lb. bike, that it took awhile to get accustomed to the LT's size and heft. I didn't expect to feel so "out of sorts" since I have owned several other large, heavy bikes prior, but I did!
I consider myself a good rider but on the 12GS I was so used to making very small inputs to move (especially with it's light front end) and I quickly found out that it takes some direct
and sure inputs to get the LT to move as effectively.
My whole purpose for buying the LT was to have two different riding experiences to enjoy. I sure have that. Once I have "mastered" the LT and gotten used to it's characteristics, I think I will have what I was looking for. Right now I feel like I'm a novice riding his first bike!
I dropped it off at BMW of Denver so they can inspect it, change the oil, install a new front tire and add a few farkles I got for her. I also removed the rear trunk and installed a Ft. Worth rack which I'm sure will change the LT's dynamics some.
