Hey, Bill - three or four of the "similar threads" listed at the bottom of the page of your post will lead you to the fix for the stuck starter syndrome. HTH.

Glad you were able to figure it out in a matter of hours. Sometimes you can unstick the relay by charging or replacing the battery then making the final battery connection with the starter button held down. Many folks have done that and kept on riding just fine as long as the battery stays charged.

Replacing your "bad" relay with a new one of the same vintage will just get you back in the same situation if your battery goes dead again later. BMW's fix is to provide a newer relay that is wired such that it won't attempt to close if the trigger voltage is too low. But since you've already torn it down that far and a new relay is on the way, I'd just install it then get going on your trip.

Maybe during your next full 12K service you can change to the newer style relay. Or just keep the battery charged and forget about it. And be glad it happened at home, rather than in the middle of nowhere.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
