Question Steering Damper Rebuild

Can't find any info on rebuilding the steering damper (2000 LT) using the search function. Even in the old website archive a link in a thread to a "how-to" article goes nowhere. Anyone have an idea where to look? Thanks in advance!

I had Raffy rebuild mine.... might have been an exchange ...that I believe cost around $80.

I believe RaffyK used to rebuild them... send him a PM.

Or, take a look at one of these sweet babies!

I did find the info that RaffyK used to rebuild them - but a thread I found about the steering damper had a reply from him that said he no longer did them. I also know about the aftermarket ones - I am trying to do this inexpensively so they don't really fit the bill. Maybe I will PM RaffyK....

The steering damper's only function is to damp out oscillations. To test it, put the bike on the center stand and lift the front wheel. Use a block under the engine or have a helper push down on the trunk.

Turn the wheel slowly from side to side and there should be little resistance to movement. Turn the wheel quickly from side to side and you should feel the damper kick in and slow the wheel some.

If it does, the damper is fine. If there is no difference in feel between slow and fast movement, then the damper should be repaired or replaced.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

I just had mine replaced on my 05' LT at 6K service under warranty. They couldn't tell me if the new one would last any longer that the 6000 miles the first one lasted!

The damper on my '02 still works fine after 90K miles.

My damper on my '99 died a while back. Guess what, I haven't missed it. Bike is a lot easier to maneuver at low speeds and I haven't noticed any difference at higher speeds. The scary 35mph no hands wobble is still there of course, but the damper never helped that anyway.
