Angry Cost of Rear Drive

The rear drive on my 2001 LT is failing at 38,000 miles. I was about 70 miles out when I started feeling an unusual vibration so I headed home on slower, back roads. I made it home. If I spin the rear wheel it's pretty obvious it's the rear drive problem so many others have described.

I did a search but only found replacement cost on a few Australian posts ($1,200). I'm hoping that is Australian dollars and not American. I'm currently between jobs and the last thing I need now is a large repair bill.

I will need to have the work done at my dealer in that I have no mechanical skills. Can anyone who has paid a dealer to do this give me an estimate of what it's going to cost.

Thanks, Don

Where are you located, Don? Several of us have removed and replaced LT rear drives. It's not a bad job if you have the right tools. You can get a new drive from Chicago BMW at 20% off, or maybe from a bike junkyard or a place that trikes LTs if you're on a really tight budget.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
