Question Rotor replacement gone wrong? Any Ideas?

Just replaced rear brake rotor at the dealer, and 100 miles later my final drive gears are fried. "I Think". Lots of metal found in gear oil and the grinding noise and vibration left me at a 5mph cruise to the next gas station. When I picked up my bike from the dealer, I felt a light high frequency vibration when the bike was in motion. I assumed it was the new brake pads and rotor breaking in or ABS splines on the new rotor. My question is if the dealer had to tamper or remove the final drive to change the rear brake rotor and pads? 2002 K1200LT

Thanks,

Ski

Having replaced my rear rotor with the EBC rotor: I didn't have to do a thing to the final drive, other than remove the bolts holding the rotor on and then re-bolt the new rotor to the final drive.

Methinks you've simply been bit by an unfortunate coincidence. Simple luck of the draw not in your favor here. Unless there's something else involved, highly doubt a rotor change alone could contribute one way or the other to a FD failure.

Thanks for your reply. Your knowledge will help me tomorrow when I bring the bike back to the dealer.

Thanks so much,
