Smile Bushtec Isolation Relay

Regarding this relay, getting a voltage feed back through the brake light circuit which I think should not be. 8.35 Volts continually, and then 13 Volts when the brakes are on. Checked and double checked, tail light bulbs are OK too. All other pins work as expected except this one.
Yes I do know what I'm doing.
Yes I am using a good Fluke Multi-meter so my readings are accurate.
Seems that when I power up the relay, this voltage bleed occurs.
Any one have this problem or do I have a dud relay. All other functions OK.
TIA

Sounds like you are missing a ground some where and the voltage is feeding back through a bulb that is "looking" for a ground. I would double check all ground connections.

Smile Not the ground.

Thanks John, ground is good. Taken up by the power and earth leads to the relay itself. then to the hitch loom via the white lead. Any other ideas?

I've not heard of this one before. My next step would be to contact Bushtec directly; contact info is posted on their website, www.bushtec.com.

BTW, I wouldn't bother posting your Q to the Bushtec Forum -- John Preston will just reply with his standard "please contact us directly" message; seems he doesn't care for posting of problems with his equipment on the forum

Smile Great Service

Thanks Mark, I have contacted Andrew and as expected found him to be very helpful. In fact all the staff at Bushtec have been great, going way back to when Rena and I first visited the factory to have a looky see, and commence our order.
For info the four sense wires require only 100 milliamps of current to trigger the relay, 1/10th Amp, not much. I'm still looking for a solution, and a new relay is on the way. I'll do some more trouble shooting today, with some suggestions from Andrew too. One thought I had was my placement and proximity of the power leads to the relay trigger wires. Not sure if an induced current would cause this issue, but will reroute them and check. Thanks.

Thumbs up relay

The Bushtec Isolation Relay is not immune to failure. After 90K and 4 years mine failed while on my way to the MOA in Spokane WA. John Preston couldn't have been more helpful in getting me through a short time fix it on the road. It did indeed fail and was replaced at the factory on my way back East. (at no charge).

Smile Dud Relay

Further to my last post it seems as though I do have dud relay. Removed from bike powered up on the bench and found the voltage bleed coming through the brake wire, 8.14 Volts. Also 1.38 Volts through the right turn. The other two were 0 Volts.
As no signal was powering the four sense wires, this is not as required.
New relay coming.
Thanks for the info Gene, nothing electronic is immune to failure, but this one had me scratching my head for a while.
Cheers
