My Answer to BMW's $110 Cup Holder

I made this folding cup holder out of a piece 1/8" x 12" x12" aluminum plate, 10 stainless steel screws and 1 $5.79 folding cup holder from foreandaftmarine.com/CP-45619.htm. The cup holders come in various colors and a stainless steel unit (they all include adjustable arms to accommodate and restrain most cup/mug sizes). It took me 2.5 hours to construct. I used hi-temp flat black paint because I did not want any sun reflecting from a gloss finish and I could bake the hi-temp paint in my wife's oven (she wasn't home) which enabled me to assemble and install the unit as soon as it was cool enough to handle. I saved the template, if anyone is interested. PM me.

I pm'd your wife about the oven - man, are you in BIG TROUBLE!

But you DO have one very cool and good looking cup holder.

I hereby pronounce your innovation "Ghetto Fabulous!"

Thumbs up

Nice looking unit!

However, have you tried your bottle holder with a tank bag? Looks to me that you need to choose between these two. Either the bottle holder or a (Chicane or similar) tank bag. But not both...? I hope I'm wrong.

Best regards

In hind sight, I should have stated the bracket is customizable (new word), not universal.

I don't use a tank bag, so I built the bracket to hold the cup holder as low as passable without interfering with the access to any of the radio/GPS buttons. It also allows the "junk bin" lid to fully open (adjust mp3 flash drive) when the front wheel is straight forward. I did make one for a buddy of mine who has a tank bag and map case (no GPS). I just modified the bracket by cutting not bending the joint between the bracket and plate which holds the cup holder and had the two welded together to provide the appropriate elevation.

Ya gotta be kidding!

I've heard about a cup holder for the LT, but thought it was urban legend! How the hell do you drink 'n ride with a helmet, let alone trying to grab mugs with gloves on? With my luck I can only picture coffee everywhere else except down my throat! Well, as they say, difrnt strks

I would rather be riding my bike and thinking about God than sitting in Church thinking about my bike!

Regards
Allen

Garage
Have you heard of straws? Or flip face helmets?

I much prefer my CamelBak, but then again the only thing I'm drinking while riding is water.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
