Overheating and oil change

Riding in the DC metro area I have been stuck in traffic through out the entire summer with minimal threat of overheating, I normally keep the RPM's around 1200-1700 and she keeps her cool or goes down. the past few times I have been doing the commuter crawl she has come into the overheat zone and one overheat light, I have approximately 2900 miles since the last Oil change and I am wondering if this is a contributing factor since the air temps have fallen considerably. I have not found a correlation in some of the other threads.

The cooling fans should activate before the overtemp light. I have ridden in stop and go traffic for an extended period of time (45+ minutes) in 110 temps and never had the overtemp light come on.

Let the bike idle until the fans come on and be sure BOTH of them are running. If only one comes on, it will over heat in stop and go traffic. Happened to me and a couple others. On mine one of the fans had come unplugged, dealer thought it must not have been plugged in all the way at the factory.

Thanks David, took your advice and observed the cooling fans. The left side did not kick on, wanted to see if it was locked up took a straw and spun it - worked fine since - Go figure.

Thanks Again - saved much $$$ in trouble shooting at the dealer.
