Slight Knocking On My LT

Hi I've got a slight knocking from the suspension on light bumps ,what is the likely cause please?

Is there a special tool socket to remove the lower ball joint ?

bottom nuckle ball joint ?
steering damper rubber?
head bearings?

bike has done 36000 miles

Thanks

Andrew

I would say it is your shock bottoms out I had that replaced the OEM with a new spring all is fine or you can buy a whole new shock

Are you sure it's coming from the front shock?
If it's bottoming out, have you tried reloading the hydraulic oil in your rear shock pre-loader? Very quick, very inexpensive, pretty effective. Saved me big bucks. Now happy enough with the ride. A new progressive spring or a new shock would be better, but for now, happy enough.
Disclaimer; I don't know what's going on with your shock or if you have another problem, but re-filling the hydraulic fluid is a good thing to rule out, costing under $10 and 20 min of your time. Can be done faster next time.

I would guess at that mileage it is none of those, but to what it is only you or a dealer can work it out, it could be anything from a loose front fender to a centrestand I had a rubber missing in my chrome exhaust cover when I hit a bump it rattled on the side stand so ,"it could be anything". Put it up on the centre stand and have a real good poke around you will find it eventually.

Re: Slight Knocking On My LT

I think that the steering head bearings aren't a likely suspect. The miles on the bike don't suggest that. But you can put a jack under the oil pan area & elevate the front wheel, then turn the handlebars back & forth to feel for or listen for problems.
I think the Clymer manual may help with some diagnostics. If you don't have one, I can take a look at mine.
Also, have you grabbed your steering damper & given it a good shake to see if it has an issue?
All your tupperware fasteners tight? Hard to say where the knock is coming from at this point.

Re: Slight Knocking On My LT

Find yourself a good bump that makes it knock and then hit it with the front brake lightly applied. Could be the brake pads or possibly your steering damper.
