Differance in LT radios. 2004 & 2005

Can't be certain with all the differant posts over the years. But did i read somewhere that 99 to 2004 radios and 2005 to 2009 are incompatable with one another? 1st generation radios cannot interchange with 05 to 09 LT's

In a nutshell yes they are incompatible but more so due to the SW in the controllers (part under the buttons). They essentially use the same IK bus to drive the displays but you would be better off going the after market marine replacement route as opposed to using a different year LT radio.

Only asking because i have a Baris repaired radio in my 04. Nothing wrong. Just that if someday if i ever get another LT. I would like to pull my accessories off this LT. The upgraded radio being one item. Oh well. Thats a long way off. Guess I'll go with a 2004 and older if i do go with another LT. A GTL may someday be in the cards. But i really don't think its a better tourer comfort wise than the LT. Then again. What is.

Wings are alright. But everybody has them it seems. And I don't care for the suspension. The sitting position isn't comfotable for me. Yes This could all be solved with aftermarket seat and Traxion suspension setup. That flat 6 motor is awesome though. I rode my friends Wing with a Traxion setup. Wow. It stiffened it up and handles better.Thats the only way I would own one.

Re: Differance in LT radios. 2004 & 2005

I just upgraded to an 05 LT from a 02. The 02 doesn't have an intercom or plug in for a headset. Do you think I could swap the 02 into the 05? Sorry about hijacking your thread. I too was thinking about swapping the 02 radio into the 05.

2002 K1200LT, Pacific Blue
1991 Bushtec, painted Yamaha Venture Blue

100,000+ trouble free miles.

1- If you don't count the replacement of a leaking rear main seal that caused the clutch assembly to be replaced at 74,000 miles.

2- The Trunck Latch is now broken on both sides at 86,000 miles.

3- The Banjo bolt behind the headlight that is part of the braking system and goes to the right front caliper has sprung a leak. this is dumping brake fluid on the caliper and front tire.

4- The switch that activates the fans when the temp rises went out at 98,835 miles.

Re: Differance in LT radios. 2004 & 2005

To anyone thinking upgrading the radio. I recently purchased my 06 LT and the radio had issues, some speakers didnt work and it was difficult to seek radio stations. I purchased a Pioneer DEH-X6710BT and changed out the rear speakers to Sony 4 way's. I wasn't able to swap out the front speakers due to fact I would've had to remove more hardware... The speakers were fine anyways and sounded great.. Once the radio was installed I added a cell phone holder thats sits right above the stingray. The phone (Android) is paired via bluetooth to the radio. Whats also great Pioneer has a Free App so you control the radio directly from the phone. Plus I paired my Helmet via Bluetooth so I can listen to the radio/cd or talk on my cell. I'll add some photo's later. Removing the tuperware and reinstalling wasnt as bad as I thought. Now I feel more confident to work on my own bike..
