Another radio problem (I searched first)

Just bought this bike. 2000 K1200LTC. The radio would turn on but no sound. I read many threads and I disconnected the battery last night. Tonight I hooked it back up. I hooked up the charger to keep voltage up and I was sure to have the radio off until the bike started as suggested in several threads.

All displays and functions seem to work but no sound. The I turned the bike off. Voila! beautiful sound and it sounds good. The radio will only give me sound with the key off. Turn the key on with or without starting the bike and no sound. Turn key off and sound back on.

Ideas anyone?

In case it makes a difference the bike has CB and intercom. There is a small Midland hand held CB and intercom unit under the stingray. I will be removing it,

Maybe trivial but as this bike is new to you. Have you checked:

- Fader - if for example adjustment is totally to Rear speakers and connection to those (plug under left side of stingray + another before entering rear trunk) is broken it might cause a situation like that
- Intercom - some aftermarket (Baehr, Starcom, or other Intercom-systems have a connection to speaker lines (typically rear) which disconnect the speakers when directing signal to helmet (basically same issue as the first option: Fader turned to Rear and line disconnected)

So I would start by checking the Fader (even to front / rear or only front). Then I would check physically the lines to speakers.

Born to be wild so why not

Re: Another radio problem (I searched first)

thought there was a switch to direct the music from speakers to headset, this may not be accurate just a suggestion.

Re: Another radio problem (I searched first)

Think the guys have got the right answer.
Mine has a 3-way switch I put near the rear powerlet to send the audio from rear speakers to the helmet coms, which then cuts out the rear speakers... sometimes it gets knocked and there's no music in my ears or rear speakers, so I know the switch is in wrong position.
Pays to still have the fader set so some sound level still goes to front speakers so you know radio is good.

With the key on but not running all controls work including fader and balance (left/right). If there was a switch why would it onlt cut off all sound when the engine is started? I will keep looking and look forward to stripping her naked in a week or 2.

Re: Another radio problem (I searched first)

Sounds like its beyond my electrical knowledge... but to confirm..
a) key on "ON" position (not "ACC" position) but bike not started, everything works, audio from both front & rear speakers
b) as soon as you press starter (disconnects power to lights, radio etc temporarily AFAIK) the radio no longer works....

If that's the case it sounds a bit like a dodgy relay somewhere, hopefully one of the guru's will weigh in with opinions...

something like this comes to mind.... http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/south-ea...yoda-john.html and the Load Relief Relay (?) just a guess

Re: Another radio problem (I searched first)

SOLVED.

Thanks to a kind member who PM'd me I realized all is well. There is a push button which I didn't push well enough and in the right combination. The battery disconnect rest got the radio working and there was no sound as there is a button which routes sound to the headsets (which I do not have) but allows the speakers to play with the key turned off.

Thanks so much to all who had suggestions.
