Gas Tank Full?

Motorcycle specs lists the tank capacity @ 5.8 us gallons for a '99 LT

Gauge shows less than 1/4 tank remaining with bike on center stand at the pump. I can only fit about 2.5 gallons in the tank. No more gas can physically fit in the tank and the gauge shows just under full. I've been able to repeat this problem.

Is there a trick to this or is there a gauge/sending unit problem?

Re: Gas Tank Full?

and do a proper fuel economy test, a gauge is only an indicator, the fist half goes down quick the last half seems to last longer. I know I can do 420km with out running out of fuel

Re: Gas Tank Full?

Always fill while on the side stand. The fill hole will be higher and you will be able to fill the tank all the way.

The spec booklet for ole Toad ('99 LT) lists fuel tank capacity as 6.34 US gallons. Must be close, cuz I've put in 6.1 gallons after coasting in to a turnpike gas station!
