Question Transmission Swap

Can anyone tell me if a 2005 LT 6 speed transmission will work in a 2002 LT
as a swap out ?
Thank you

It is basically the same except for one to two of the ratios. It is a 5 speed (1-4 & R) with OD (that makes it 6). Should fit fine.

No, it is a 5 speed, but 5th is the overdrive ratio, REVERSE is the 6th "gear".

I think the 5th gear ratio changed a little in '03 from the previous years (they made it a little higher ratio (lower gear) to improve the performance a little in 5th gear.

David's right, again. All LTs have 5 forward gears. The old RS/GT had six forward gears, but sixth gear was removed to fit reverse on the LT.

There were some previous discussions about putting an RS tranny into an LT, but since the LT's 5th gear is almost the same ratio as the RS's 6th gear, there really didn't seem much to gain for all the work and expense involved.

Heck, one guy even put an entire RS motor into his LT, and it just didn't run nearly as well as stock (wrong power/torque curve for the LT's increased weight).

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Ahhh... but the 05 brochure states "a 5 speed transmission with Over Drive". After I bought it I kept looking for the OD button.

"Overdrive" means that the ratio of input RPM to Output RPM is above unity, or 1:1. If one revolution of the input produces anything higher than one revolution of the output, it is overdrive.

I knew that 5th gear was overdrive, but just looked it up and found that at least on the '06 LT both 4th and 5th gears are overdrive!

First gear, 2.045:1; Second, 1.600:1; Third, 1.267:1; Fourth, 0.970:1; Fifth, 0.806:1
