Question At 55 MPH...

Just curious, but, for those of you that actually spend time driving this speed (sometimes, I must), what gear do you find yourself in?

In the twisties in the Tejas Hill Country, Toad is in 3rd.
Rest of the time, we're in 4th @ 55mph. 65-70mph and above, we'll drop up to 5th. Don't know how to poll that info - so I won't.

+1 on what Dick said. Depends on the terrain, twisteez 3rd, backroads 4th with any sort of hills, but I'll putt along in 5th on long straight flat areas (well come to think of it, I'm putting along, but never below 60), so never in 5th at 55. Never thought to stop and think about it.

Yep...

and when the BC says 6 miles to empty and I'm 7 miles from a pump, it's 6th gear! (clutch in, low revs and a strong tailwind...)

Ditto! As a mattter of fact, we discussed at this at length at the Ironhorse ranch at the STCII in April. Depending on the road, I might even be doing 55 in first! The LT looovvvveeesss the high rpms!

depends upon the terrain

Like most have said, it depends upon the terrain, traffic and curves. In Florida there are not too many curves ( 318 miles 11 curves!) I generally shift around 4500 RPMs. If I'm on the interstate, that means 5th around 55 MPH.
