What have other found when they see brake fluid leaking down the center stand and the clutch fluid level decreasing? Have many found it was the Slave Unit or the lines going to it? That is my dilemma and I'm hoping it is going to be the lines which are cheaper to replace. Secondly, the dealer suggests if they change the Slave unit, to change the lines to for preventative action. The two lines are $168.00 each
I'd like to only replace parts that are bad. Any opinions out there?

Generally I believe that You will only need to replace the lower half of the clutch line (if it is bad).
The lower half is where the corrosion will occur.

Sounds like you have a line that has corroded through enough to leak. As for replacing the salve itself, might as well while the bike is apart. The clutch throw out bearing is in the slave and it is pretty small. If it freezes up it will destroy the slave. I would replace it.

Thank you both for the replies. The dealer said if they have to replace the slave unit, it'll be $650.00 and if it is the two lines, another $168.00 per line in parts. I agree it is better to be proactive and replace parts while the bike it apart to save going back in and replace when they do go bad. However, to replace parts at the high cost in the shop, to me is not a good choice. Why replace parts if they are still functioning. especially, when it is me paying this out of my pocket.

If you plan to keep the LT with 92K on the ODO, I would consider the following. If the clutch or rear main seal and O-ring have never been changed now is the time to do that job along with the SS and lines. Plus you would change the transmission input shaft seal.

why,, because it takes the same amount of time and money to replace the slave if it goes in say another 10k miles.. so instead of the cost of the slave now, you will be up for all the labour and the slave If, and I say If it should fail later on, a part that is known to have failed on several LT's.

If you have 91 K on the girl now I would replace the slave. $650 seem like a lot since is should only take two hours tops to pull the swing arm, replace the slave and then reinstall. But if that includes the 168 slave the 169 lower hose and the 129 vent pipe. Then that is not a bad deal.

You brought up a good point. I'm taking a 2200 mile ride here in Sept so I might as well get all that stuff replaced and have a piece of mind knowing it's new components.

SS is Stainless Steel as in stainless steel braided brake lines

A common replacement for the original non steel reinforced lines that came standard on bikes after a certain year. Someone will provide that year but the earlier bikes did not have them and were prone to blowing out with some age on them.
