Forgiving Non Waving Harley Riders

Well, for a while at least! On my recent trip up to Pa and back I was stupid and pushed ol Calamty past her mileage limits and
ran out of gas for no reason other then poor planning and stubbornness! Had my mind made up that I could make Tapahanak and the significantly cheaper gas! I stopped at Hornes at 17/301 for breakfast and a milkshake.....yep you have to have one to become a believer! (get the large, you'll understand why when it comes I'll save you the surprise!) could have gassed up but nooooooooo, wanted to save the 15 cents a gallon ohhhh big money! Got about 10 miles from Tapahanak when the double line showed up and thought I'll make it! Passed another gas station but noooooooo still 5 cents cheaper further ahead! 7 miles later.......yep she was done! Now to the real point of this post!

Started walking and a truck goes by on the other side (4 lane spit road) next thing I know this truck pulls up behind me after turning around and coming back! Takes me to Tappahanak for gas and then back! Totally out of his way! He and his girlfriend were coming back from OBX. He was a Harley rider and we talked Motorcycles and how we all shared a common passion. So all Non waving Harley riders get a free pass from me because even if they don't wave they still will give a fellow rider a hand when needed!

I wave to everyone, scooters, Harleys, Honda's , it does not matter. You know you meet the friendliest people on a LT.

Re: Forgiving Non Waving Harley Riders

I think the Harley riders wave the most.
But everybody waves out of town, out on the road. In town, no one waves.
You might as well give up on waving to scooters. They don't want. That is a separate world, scooter world.
As to help, the Harley riders like to help. But so do a lot of the BMW riders.

Re: Forgiving Non Waving Harley Riders

In Belgium, I think about 90% of riders give some form of acknowledgement. It can be either coming head on, or passing - but the majority will wave, nod etc (if safe!)

As a rule if I can safely wave, shake a leg, nod etc to either a fellow biker or a car that has given room for me - I do. (Ok I am prejudiced against scooters but if they wave I will wave back!)

Now I ride a scooter too, and when I do I am accustomed to being ridiculed by just about anybody on a motorcycle. That's why we Vespisti don't wzve

Re: Forgiving Non Waving Harley Riders

I joke with my Harley friends that they have a legitimate reason not to wave. The way their bars shake, if they let go to wave they may never get hold of the bar again!

These don't exist, they are a myth perpetuated by people unwilling to ride a BMW motorcycle. Sort of like unicorns...

Absolutely. Motorcycles, scooters, bicycles, unicycles. Just because it's the neighborly/nice thing to do.

It all depends.

If they wave - I try to wave back don't care if it is a Moped, or scooter.

I have seen more BMW C1 bikes (a bike that thinks it is a car) than the C600/C650. I don't think I have ever seen a purchased BMW Scooter on the road. (A friend of mine took it as a loaner while his bike was being serviced.)

Given the price of the BMW Scooters, don't think they will attract too many buyers.

Re: Forgiving Non Waving Harley Riders

But if I got gas right away I wouldn't save a dollar on the gas price! Instead I got gas for more then if I had gassed up earlier, I got a nice ride in the back of a pickup, and got to call myself all kinds of names most beginning with the word STUPID ******** ohh yeah I would have got home at least an hour earlier. Yep.....lesson not learned but relearned! Don't be that guy! Lol!

Re: Forgiving Non Waving Harley Riders

I had something similar on gas with my K100 a few years back, but it was a new bike in my hands and I did not know it's drinking habit. I run out of gas in E75/A2 in Greece on my way to Athens. It was early morning and I had no chance to find gasoline before 07:00. Finally I remembered the sings with the 4 digit phone number that says Emergency Call. I called and reported it. Fifteen mins later they arrived with a full 5 lt gasoline container. I filled her up and asked them how much was the cost of it. They told me: "it's free, it's on the Highway owning Company". They just made a photo of my bike and license plate for their records. I thanked them and continued my way to the next gas station.

Waving? Yes, I wave to all bikes but not many of them wave back. Harley riders here are way too high to wave to other bikes than harliz.

Re: Forgiving Non Waving Harley Riders

My wife rides pillion only on my Yamaha Morphous. Problem is, she loves to wave. To everyone. Pedestrians, cars, trucks, buses, horses, cows, and even other motorcycle riders.
Now I don't mind too much but sometimes she tends to overly wave which slightly throws me off balance. I have to keep reminding her, do. not. wave. so. much!
