Map Updates

Hello Everyone;
I've been looking at a StreetPilot 2820, is it still possible to get map updates for these?
Thank you

Re: Map Updates

I believe 2009 was the last update your gps and all the equivalent models could be updated, they do not support the new NT Mapping software,

Re: Map Updates

Linton is kinda right
They don't support an easy type of update, but they can be updated.
The 2820 and NAV III are essentially the same unit ( almost ) and I have around 85% of the City Navigator Europe NT 2015.2 on my Nav III.
PITA to load but doable. Memory space is the issue and upload speed.
This might help you.

Re: Map Updates

Thanks for the information. Pretty sad though, I suppose that a new GPS unit with life time map updates would never configure with the 2006 K1200LT wiring? That makes it even sadder.
What to do, what to do, what to do? It never seems to stop does it?

Re: Map Updates

I just updated my 2820 before the trip to Nova Scotia, I have lifetime updates but it took about 4 hours to update. Memory is a problem as you can only install sections as opposed to say the whole US. But the old girl is getting tired, touch screen is finicky. Bought it new in 2006 so it doesn't owe me a dime.

One forum member posted some time ago that he was able to easily interface a Nav IV to the VOICE II. I believe he said it was basically plug and play.

I thought about getting a IV, but they are probably close to obsolescence also. So, I asked Max BMW about the possibility of using a Nav V with the VOICE II and was told it was possible. They contacted someone at BMW and the response was that the power connector was the same and should plug right in. Unfortunately, the audio connector is different, but they said that the units are electrically compatible and just need a physical connector change.

I have not tried this yet as I need to rebuild my clutch first and don't want to spend $900 on a GPS until I know the bike is worth keeping. However, if the clutch repair goes well, I plan to buy a V and see if I can take the connector from the III and splice it onto the audio output from the V. I personally much prefer wired headsets over BT and would like to keep getting the navigation commands through the VOICE II.

Re: Map Updates

My feelings too, I'd like to upgrade but want to keep the current accessories. Good luck with your clutch, maybe we will get lucky with the GPS problem in time.

Re: Map Updates

That was me who did the change and yes the IV is plug and play if your bike is later then an 05 and has the newer voice II comm system. Only plays voice thru the wired helmet speakers though not thru speakers. Can do blue tooth but then no other connection to Voice II system so for full intercom, radio, phone, and Nav functionalit must use wired headset.

The Nav III only provides GPS commands through the headsets, and then only to the rider; not the passenger. This dumb as my wife helps me navigate, particularly in congested area, but she can't hear the commands. This is a VOICE II issue, not a Nav III vs. Nav IV or Nav V issue.
