Running lights on the rear

I am looking to add running lights on the rear of the LT. My wife was recently riding in a car behind the LT at night and remarked after the trip that it was hard to see the LT on the road. What has worked well for some of the listers? Pics would be appreciated. Thank you.

Lots of good LED solutions out there. Try CarID.com and look for LED lighting. I used one of their kits to add amber running lights inside my smoke front turn signal housings.

Skene Design Motorcycle Visibility Lights

Check out Jerry Skeens P3 for the rear of the bike. Quality product and he stands by his lights if you have an issue with them. Easy install . Lots of riders using them.

I installed this shortly after buying my 2007. I have not had anyone yet miss my brake application, particularly at night or in low light conditions.

Re: Running lights on the rear

I'm going to add a 23" long Red LED strip to top of taillight fixture, initially only as 'on with ignition', later may add circuit to permit it to also function with stoplights as well... I already have BackOff wired into my top case stoplight fixture, figure that will be enough....

I installed 2 Kisan Plug'n Play bulbs on my older 00 LT. They get a lot of attention, with no problems.

On my 00 LT I installed a top case brake/tail light. On you year bike you should already have something like this installed from the factory?

Re: Running lights on the rear

Currently running

Skene P3
Kissan LED 25 for leds on top case rack
Kissan Plug and play bulbs

Front has
Moto Lights with Amber bulbs
PIAA 1100x

Adding
Skene Photon Blasters yellow double LEDs to front

Never enough or too much conspicuous lighting on a bike IMO.

Re: Running lights on the rear

My '09 has the top case brake/tail light, but I'd like running lights up high. Options I'm considering are a string of LEDS used as running lights, on the top case, mil grade 3M reflective tape or maybe a short LED band on the back of the helmet. Lumenflex has the helmet LEDs at Lumenflex | Wearable LED Lighting for Peak Visibility and Moto Reflective has the reflective tape at MotoReflective: Motorcycle Reflective/Retroreflective vinyl tape.

Stu,

Back in 2008, I purchased the light bar from www.cyclegadgets.com. It's the Backoff 6" LED light bar. It's dual intensity, so it works as a running and brake light. I don't know if cyclegadets.com still sells them. If not, I'm sure that someone else has them. Back on 08' they sold for about $39.00.

Let me know if you need more info.

Are you looking for running lights or more tail/brake lights. You can add LED lights to your lt easily and cheaply. Part #s available if anyone is interested. Added three pics with lights off, tail lights only and brake light. Just have to move your license plate down and do a little wiring.

Re: Running lights on the rear

Seriously look at and consider the Kisan Signal Minder. You can program this device to turn all your lights (brake and turn signal) into running lights. They will flash for a couple of second every time you hit the brakes and still allow the signals to function normally. You can also change the timing of the auto cancel on the signals. Add LEDs to the saddle bag reflectors and the blank area behind the bulb in the front signal lights. My Muth mirrors are also hooked up to work as both running and signal lights.

You can add these small trailer marker lights to the back of the chrome part of the tip over wings (also available in red).

I like the add on that Wayne has as well.

Re: Running lights on the rear

I'm sending this for Hooligan as he is out of town. The NAPA part numbers are LED Mod 45 STT T-LIT 4550(LED Light itself), Grommet 4570, Plug 50-94993-3 These parts cost a total $35.51 if bought individually. If you buy the complete unit all put together NAPA wants $135. We also have a template cut out of cardboard if you need it.

Re: Running lights on the rear

I am interested in adding running lights. I already have LEDs that flash when the brakes are applied. More lighting in the rear will be better.
Thank you for posting the part numbers. I'd appreciate the template. I'll send a PM. Thank you.

Re: Running lights on the rear

Your timing is good. Just ordered a couple of these. One for the LT, one for an R1 and another for an ole Harley.

Your 09 and my 03 LTC has the LED light bar on the top case.
Did a little research on this item (GS-100A).
For $3.00, you can't hardly go wrong.
They're on the slow boat from China now.
Strobes the LED light bar a few times then goes solid.

12V-24V GS-100A Car LED Brake Stop Bulb Light Strobe Flash Module Controller Box

If this link stops working, search GS-100A on eBay. It was the lowest cost I found on eBay and had over 300 purchases.

Just an update.
Installed the LED Strobe controller last night.
Very pleased with the result.
Took a short video, link below.
