Garmin Zumo 550 Update

Could anyone please explain to me why a new 16gb SDHC card can only be seen when in the Zumo but not in the laptop card reader ? I want to add all of North America and Canada to the card. The Zumo has Canada and the top US states only. Plus I can add music and audio books to the card as the Zumo has limited space for music. Thank you

Re: Garmin Zumo 550 Update

Question: did you format the SDHC in the PC or the Garmin?

I had a similar issue but it's been a few years since, but the issue is do to the FAT32 (file allocation table of the device that formatted the card)

Check with Garmin support, they can lead you through the correct steps.

Re: Garmin Zumo 550 Update

I put the card into the Zumo first, then tried in the laptop but couldn't see it. Maybe that's my mistake. I will do as you suggest and contact Garmin. Thank you.

How old is you laptop? Older laptops could only "see" up to 4 gig's, and you can't do anything about it. It isn't a Garmin issue.

Re: Garmin Zumo 550 Update

Laptop is about three years old with Windows Seven on it. It can read a 16gb stick no problem. Maybe if I tried a card reader through the USB slot it might see it then?

I don't think there is any need to remove the card from the Nav. When the Nav is plugged into the PC via the USB cable, it is acting as a card reader and the card will accept files from the computer. If you use Garmin Express, the program will let you allocate where you want to place the maps.
I just tried this on my Mac, and as soon as I plugged in the Nav, Garmin Express opened, and both the Nav and the installed card showed up on my desktop. Should be all you need. Create a folder on your card labeled Music, and add your mp3 files there.
