May have stripped bolt attaching gearshift lever to footrest

Hi- have watched the video on gear shift maintenance and read tutorials - but I think I stripped the bolt attaching the gear shift lever to the footrest... Some talk about using heat first... Which I didn't do... Should I even be using the 6mm Allen wrench in the K1200 tool kit? It fits ... Maybe that was my first mistake. I started this job because I sheared off the bolt/ball joint attached to the shifter. I ordered a replacement gearshift lever after a friend could not tap into the socket and get it out... Now this...suggestions?

If you just stripped the bolt head on the gear lever , leave it alone. There is no need to remove it. If you really want to get it out cut a slot in the head and then apply HEAT as there is blue loctite on the threads.

Re: May have stripped bolt attaching gearshift lever to footrest

I was trying to replace the gear lever - as the bolt/ball cap sheared off and I ordered a replacement gear lever to attach to the footrest.

What do you mean - cut a slot in the head?

use a hacksaw or thin grinding disk slice the bolt head and use a straight screw driver
