How many LEDs do I need to order to get my instrument gauges to look like this?

Re: Dash bulbs

I don't remember exactly. I think it was 9 or 11. I ordered extras because they don't test every single one and you are bound to get about 10% failure. If you order from a reputable vendor they will replace the bad ones, but then you are waiting. I just test and keep the replacements as spares.

I know everyone thinks blue looks cool, but I recommend warm colors if you do much night riding. The cooler colors can fatigue your eyes.

I use red and orange, still looks better than the stock white without the momentary wash in your sight when you first look away.

Pilots use red flashlights and red cockpit lighting at night for a reason. I endorse red as the preferred color.

Re: Dash bulbs

Ok I'm new to this but this is a good idea. Are you just getting colored LEDs and replacing the bulbs or is there something else too? What size bulbs?

Thanks

Bryan

Re: Dash bulbs

My 2004 LT used 5 LEDs purchased at www.superbrightleds.com I ordered 6 74-RHP in red. 120 degree beam angle. Works very well for me.

Re: Dash bulbs

This is a much older post on the topic. The resource for the lights has improved, but the process is still the same. Note that this mod does not include the B/C. That's a different animal to tame there.

Re: Dash bulbs

I'm fairly sure the bulbs from Superbrightleds are the ones most people use in their dash. As far as the OBC goes, if you are really good with soldering SMDs you could change them. I considered it, then looked up what a new one would cost if I screwed up and quickly changed my mind. I went with red translucent vinyl on the lens instead. I think it's the same in the radio controls and display. They are SMDs. Again if your confident in your soldering abilities you could change them. I think they are a bit larger than the ones in the OBC. I did a change of the soldered in lights in my Envoy's dash no problem.

Everything is dependent on your skill level and willingness to do the work or ability to pay someone else to do it for you.

Red lights are definitely easier on the eyes than the white (they look kinda cool too.)

That is a pic of my '01.

There are 5 LED's needed to re-color your dash.

The windscreen is an AeroFlow, unfortunately no longer made for our LT's. I love mine, although the weird curves take a bit of getting used to...

AeroFlow Corp.

Re: Dash bulbs

I gotta say I love this forum. Rode my new to me 2000 back from Denver to Oregon the week before snow pounded I70 in late October. I have done many things to her to make her better, make her mine, and get to know her. When I left Denver I watched as the darkness fell and was disappointed in the dash lights. Not very bright. I saw this post 2 weeks ago and ordered my LEDS from Super Bright. Last night I did the install with the red LEDS. I bought a pack of ten and now have 5 spares as I found all 10 worked out of the box. I am very happy with the new look and can now see everything at night.

I read where the OBC can be converted to red with red vinyl. Is there a how to anywhere or do I just assume I can take the OBC apart? I will do it and the speedometer calibration all at the same time as the front end has to come all apart.

Thanks to all who provide good information in this Forum.

Still rolling in Southern Oregon

'01 vs. '05 dash lights

The picture attached by the OP is my '01, and I really like the blue. I just bought an '05 and miss the blue dash. Doesn't seem to be much info on anyone switching colors on a second gen LT. I haven't taken it apart yet, but I assume that the speedo and tach are easily doable, but how about the center digital readout?

Any experience?

Here is what the dash looks like. All SMD.

The pattern around the dials and the square in the center are the illumination LEDs.
