New Bike !

Hey Guys
I just picked up a 2000 LT from a fellow member here in Indianapolis.
He met me at an airport homeland we exchanged title and cash I put a plate on it and rode it home to Canada.
The bike was well cared for and enjoyed meeting Tim and his wife Theresa.
I'm trying now to get the bike titled at home and it needs a current safety check.
The two problems I have are 1 the headlight is cracked and 2 the steering damper is leaking!
I've priced these items from BMW and I'm going to have to find used parts.
I understand that from 99 -04 all or most parts are the same.
Any idea where i can locate these items?

Thanks John

Re: New Bike !

Welcome and congratulations on your new-to-you bike! Check eBay for the headlight, you may find a used one available...

For the steering damper, go to the Illinois BMW Riders club website, as Kirk, it's President, has posted a repair video on that and many other topics for the LT. Here's the link:

There is one Headlight assy right now on EBAY for a good price. I never bought from this vendor (MaxSalvage) but he has been around EBAY for quite a while. Better double check with these guys about a tiny possible crack on this unit - photos do not tell everything:

Also, as other have said, BeemerBoneyard is a VERY GOOD vendor for used BMW parts. If you are are lucky they might have a Headlight-assy in stock. They do not sell cheaply, but always offer quality and very good service / shipping (even to Canada).

Hey John,
I can see why you need to fix the headlight for the safety check.....
However you can take your time with the steering damper.

The Quick Easy fix for a leaking damper is to wipe it down really well, spray some isopropyl alcohol on & around it, then wipe it down again.

That'll get her through.
