Starter solenoid, a different take

My 01 has been slow to start since I bough it a couple years ago. kind of like it's fighting overly advanced timing. I finally got around to doing the remote starter solenoid this past week. I was originally going to use the ford solenoid, but it's kind of large and unwieldy and isn't waterproof. Since I have a bunch of kawasaki's I used a solenoid from a big zg1000. WOW what a diffenece, my bike has never started like that. It's small, mounted discreetely behind the battery and the fix didn't cost me anything, If you're interested, i'm sure you can find these solenoids all day long for a few bux on ebay. Good luck, Steve

Re: Starter solenoid, a different take

I'm sure any good high amperage solenoid would work. I think the reason the Ford is so popular relates to availability over time. With online shopping being so prevalent now, looking around for one that has a smaller footprint is probably a good idea.

If enough people tried different ones, eventually the perfect solenoid will be found and there will be a sudden surplus of Ford solenoids.

I for one would definitely like a smaller one.
