Unhappy Starting problem

Hi everyone,
I am new on this site, I bought a 2003 k1200LT 3weeks ago and ride the bike for a week. While riding the gauges started jumping up and down. The bike shut down and refuse to crank. it started after jump but shut down. I replace the battery but will only click, no crank or start. I bye pass the alarm system, still click only. I did push start and bike started, put volt meter on the battery, the meter is reading 12.55v only while accelerating. Can someone please help me, this is my first BMW.

Re: Starting problem

It sounds like the ground cable came loose. It is tough to get to and is located on the starter(?). There are some posts on this happening. Perhaps someone else can chime in and tell you how to "reach" the loose cable.
As for voltage, the 12.55 reading should be with the engine off, if you are accelerating, or with the engine running, the voltage should be 14.1 volts.

Here is one link to tell you where to look for that loose ground cable:

Re: Starting problem

You really do not want to know this procedure. Just do an advanced search for clutch replacement and add a hour. Your best bet is to purchase a Clymers repair manual. Here is a link for the clutch replacement:

Re: Starting problem

before you start tearing it apart, the voltage through the alternator indicator light tickles the alternator to put out voltage, make sure the connection - blue wire - back of alternator is a good connection on the alternator.

Re: Starting problem

You really want to be sure the problem is in the alternator before starting to replace it. MAJOR repair due to the needed dismantling...

Born to be wild so why not

Re: Starting problem

If the blue wire is solid then turn on the key and make sure you have a "battery" light with the engine off. If you don't the bulb is burned out and it is the source to excite the field in the alternator. Second one from the left on the bottom row.
