K1200LT Need tupperware help

Previous owner had a shelf above the instrument cluster for various accoutrements. I wanted to remove the shelf so I could see the speedo and tach - and I don't use the shelf for anything.
Going through Chapter 17 pg 540-41 in the Clymer manual to remove the outer instrument cover. Dropped a torx bit in behind the fairing - gonna have to get that later.
So now the question is...
How do I remove the front of the fairing?
More specifically - I'm following the manual... Do I need to remove the Upper Fairing - to get behind the headlight where all these wires are going? Or do I need to remove the instrument cluster to get behind the headlight?
I'm already getting overwhelmed by the small number of different sized screws that I have to remember where they go and which size goes where.
So here is a picture of how far I've gotten.
I'm not much of a shade tree mechanic - but Hey I got this far - it can't be that bad right?

Looks like you are doing a great job.

As for removing the nose cone, there is a write up

I've gotten to the back of the light from under the nose cone without too much difficulty if that is all you are going for.

as far as the screws go ,get a fine point sharpie and mark the hole with an l for long and an s for short get as close to the hole as you can no one will ever see them and you'll be all set for the next time, good luck it's not that bad if you take your time, scott

Alright traderbob. Your comment on the lost torx bit made me chuckle. I don't know how many small "tools" I have lost then went looking for and could never find. On any number of different vehicles it seems to happen to me.

Your doing alright. I haven't taken the nosecone off. But I hadn't taken Tupperware off till last year. I also hadn't till last winter pulled ..The gas tank, and the fuel pump to change the fuel filter, and QD for fuel lines. I pulled the radio out for repair. I didn't think I could do it at first. But I did. You have some fantastic folks here plus how to videos. Someone here gave the advice of 1 piece of plastic takes short screws. 2 or more take longer screws. That theory works just fine and have not had an issue with that advice.

Just pulled my nose cone off for the first time and it took a bit of detective work, even after reading the guidance on here. I finally realized the two sideways screws near the windshield arms (they hold on my aftermarket electronics shelf) were what was keeping things from coming apart. Once those were out, things kinda fell apart really easy.

Guys
Does anyone have the part number for the various screws used in the farings? My doc from other postings notes that there are 12mm 15mm and 20mm screws. Went down to the dealer today to buy a few spares, but it seems that he could not find a 15mm screw, only 12, 20 and a 16mm screw.
The part number he kept finding was M5X12, M5X20 and M5X16.
My Clymer and BMW Factory CD do not give any part numbers or indicators.

Just quickly checked MAX BMW's fiche site, on tupperware, and they show "07 14 9 115 641 SCREW - 4X14" on the stingray, in addition to the 5x12; 5x16; 5x20 screws.

You can use any of them. Rule of thumb short ones go where there is only one layer of plastic. Long ones go where there are well nuts. The medium (15-16) go where there is more than one layer of plastic.

I just use painter's blue tape and tape the screw into the hole where it goes. Tape comes off without leaving a residue. Use the same tape to label the connections as you go.

I diamanteld my bike completely without the manual. What I discovered was take the upper fairing off first, then the lower and then the headlight comes out carefully with screws from the top side. Good luck.
