2006 Xenon headlight replacement

Is changing the D2R bulb in the low beam the same as changing a H7 bulb?
The service manual left out the Xenon bulb R/R information, same as chilton's repair book.

thanks...Randy

Not entirely. The ballast is fastened to the assembly and if you have big hands....or are clumsy like myself, it might be easier to remove the nose cone to get at things.

I am assuming your low beam isn't burning. Have you checked the fuse? I remember someone saying the Xenon bulbs do not burn out.

No, it's working, I read that bulbs lose their brightness over the years.
I would like to switch to a 55w 5000 bulb.

later..Randy

Its like changing the H-7 with the spring clip you push in and flip back and you can do this with out taking plastic off by laying on your back on some platform thats about 14 to 16 in. off the ground and work with both hands up there

In the HID world the bulbs are all DS2 units in different color temps and with different mounting bases. The power is determined by the ballast. In this case BMW only offers one ballast unit. And it is usually the ballast that goes out. The bulbs have an arc chamber and unless it is broken they will light.

Re: 2006 Xenon headlight replacement

Don't know if that fits - looks to be right. BMW lists it as:
07 11 9 905 567 BULB XENON LIGHT - D2R 0.04 1 $241.

Personally I have not seen one of the stock BMW bulbs but also I have never seen a HID bulb go bad that was not physically broken. I have replaced several ballasts though. I have the same bulb in my 05 LT for the last 10 years and have been through 2 ballasts and the bulb is just as bright as it was new.

One more data point D2S are for projector lights and D2R are for reflector lights (like the LT) but the bulb construction is the same internally.
