I just joined the club that I didn't want to join...
Nice day yesterday, but I'm in a hurry to get to work. Only 1 minute into the ride I realize that I've left my garage door open, so I zip back home and close it. To get out of my driveway I need to turn around. This involves reversing left onto some fall leaf covered grass on a steep downhill.
I think you can see where this is going.
The bike got away from me a little, I put my feet down, slip on the leaves, and in slow motion, down she goes onto her right side - the downhill side. There's an awful sound of breaking plastic, which was the separating of my right mirror from the housing as it split across each pin and into the housing. The motor ran for maybe 2 seconds as I frantically got to the kill switch and shut it down.
And I learned for the first time, even with the "walk it up" method, this thing is HEAVY.
So, yes I'm stupid for rushing, yes I paid the price, and yes I've done probably at least a mirrors' worth of damage to my pride and joy, if not more. I've heard it said that there are those that have dropped their K1200LT, and those that will. I am now one of those that has. Bummer....
The bike did start fine, no smoke etc, but I'm traveling for 2 weeks so I can't get into it to see what else my stupidity has cause. Brakes all seemed to work, handlebars looked ok - I think the fact the grass was soft and wet might have helped....
