Question CB Problems....J & M

Purchased a 2006 blue LT with the J & M CB installed from the dealer.

It has never work correctly...

They replaced it once already and still does not transmit only receives.

Anybody had issues with this CB from BMW (J & M )..

My feeling is the PTT switch is shorted ?
The bike came with this mickey mouse switch added on for clearance?

Does Airide make a CB unit for LT or anybody else experience a better CB ?

Radar is not the only means to get there quickly...Need the CB.....

I got one of the first J&M CB units when they came out. My dealer didn't have a clue as to how to install it. Went back to them 6 times and they never got it to work right. I could hear everyone Ok, but they couldn't understand me. Took it to another dealer. They said they'd take a look at it but couldn't cover it under warranty since another dealer did the install. They found that the antenna wasn't properly grounded. I guess they were supposed to grind a bare spot where it mounts and they didn't do so. So $150.00 bucks later I finally had a unit that seems to work fine. Was worth the bucks not to have to keep going back for service. You may have another problem than this, but this was my experience.

I have the J&M CB & intercom system, no trouble. I don't have the external PTT switch, try using the one on the unit.

CB Problems

My CB turns on and shows busy when the squelch is turned up. The question is, are you supposed to be able to hear the CB through the speakers or only with a headset. What should I check. No sound and don't have a mic. to test X-mit.

Zimbazi,

They may need to run a ground wire for your antanna. This was an issue when they first came out and there were no instructions given to BMW about it. I have never had an issue with mine but it was installed after the dealership found out about the ground. Mine works great.

Dix42, you have to have a headset to hear the CB, it won't work on the bike's speakers unless someone else knows a way to run it there.

Without a headset and a microphone in your helmet I don't think your going to hear anything. AFAIK, the sound from the CB will not play through the speakers on the bike.

I'll have to check, but I think it does show "busy" with squelch all the way up.

Question J&M

Have you communicated directly with J&M? They have been extraordinarily helpful to mein the past.
