Enjoying route 66, need west coast dealer for scheduled service.

Things for the most part are going well on my Route 66 adventure (link for blog in signature). I'm going to need the fluids changed (oil, tranny, final drive and a valve check). Who'd you all recommend? Planned route is route 66 to end, up PCH to San Francisco, over to Reno the Vegas for some winter storage. O ya, I'm in Flagstaff today, or close enough.

Cheers,

In the Los Angeles area, I can recommend Long Beach BMW Motorcycles, just off the 405, and also Valdi's Motozone independent BMW service just off the 110, just south of the 405.
I would trust either shop with my bike. Which is saying a lot, as I don't like people even looking too close at my bike, much less touching it.

Re: Enjoying route 66, need west coast dealer for scheduled service.

Long Beach is quite a ways off your pathÖ I had RPM Cycles replace my shocks and mount the rear tire, right before I left for CCR. They did a good job and they're a couple of blocks off the Highway 101 at:

RPM Cycles
1495 Palma Dr., Unit B
Ventura, CA 93003
[email protected]
(805) 644-7159

They were recommended to me by the local BMW dealer that couldn't get to mine timely due to the fuel stick/pump issues inundating dealers back then.

Have fun on your adventure and ride safe!

Take a look at the Pomona Ca. BMW dealer, that is right off route 66. Now they go by the name of Brown Motor Works, Inc

885 West Mission Blvd
Pomona, CA 91766
Phone: 909-629-2132
Hope this helps you have a great trip.

There is the San Jose BMW where I bought my K1200LT. Very nice people, good service.

Re: Enjoying route 66, need west coast dealer for scheduled service.

Thanks guys, I'll give them a call on Tuesday. Spending a day or 2 in LA isn't the worst thing. If anyone has any other dealers on the west coast they'd recommend let me know.

RPM is a good choice, but if you are looking for a "dealer" then:

BMW of Ventura
830 Tourmaline Dr
Newbury Park, CA 91320
805-499-3770

Ask for Corwin in service.

Re: Enjoying route 66, need west coast dealer for scheduled service.

I would add West Valley Cycle in Canoga Park to the list. It is one of the oldest BMW dealerships and their rates are much lower than the big guys.
You can talk to Ruth or John at 818-341-7221.
They are located in the Northwest part of Los Angeles, and open 10:00-6:00.

How about Ted Porter in Scott's Valley?
They are rather well know, and been around forever.

Re: Enjoying route 66, need west coast dealer for scheduled service.

I went with west valley. Really nice people and they went out of their way to fit me in when I just showed up. When they didn't have a front tire in stock, they send me down the road to someone who did. It was just nice to be able to get everything out of the way in one day. Tomorrow I finish the last leg of route 66 (Victorville to the Pacific ocean) I think it is one ride everyone should do once.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions.,

Tross,

I read your entire blog and enjoyed it very much. I admire your ,"take at is it comes attitude". One of the things you are doing that most of us don't do is to take time to stop and visit the local sites, shops and restaurants to get a flavor of each community. When my wife and I take our trips I'm always so focused on getting from point A to B and miss all the attractions in between. Maybe because we have a limited time and try to cover to many miles. Now that I am retired and as soon as the wife retires I look forward to a trip like yours with no time constraints. Thanks for the blog be safe and enjoy the rest of your trip.

Glad they were able to accommodate you!
Where did you go for your tire? There is a Cycle gear nearby, which I probably should have mentioned to you, that carries tires that fit our bikes.

Re: Enjoying route 66, need west coast dealer for scheduled service.

I checked with the Canoga Park Cycle Gear before CCR about mounting and balancing a tire on my LT rear wheel. They said they couldn't do it as they didn't have a special tool for BMWs so I had RPM in Oxnard do it when I had my new shocks installed. West Valley had recommended RPM as they were tied up with warranty work for several weeks.

I am very surprised as Cycle Gear in Canoga have mounted both my front and rear tires for my LT for quite a couple of years now. I think there is an issue with the front RT wheel thought, and a special adapter is required.

Re: Enjoying route 66, need west coast dealer for scheduled service.

So guys,

I'm back on the west coast again, and looking for a shop in the LA area, to get a oil and filter changed. Any changes on

options on dealers? Or know of someone new? Let me know. Most shops are closed today so I've got a few days.

So if you know someone good, let me know

Thanks again,

Tross
