Windscreen coating

While cleaning the windscreen on the 02 LTE, I noticed an area the size of a quarter, where it appears to be flaking. I originally thought it was dried windscreen cleaner, but the more I cleaned it, the larger the area is getting. The area has a dull appearance, and if it grows too large can be a problem. It doesn't appear that the windscreen has any type of wax coating (possibly applied by the former owner), and there doesn't seem to be any scratches. It is not impeding my vision, yet!!! Can anyone advise a remedy?

Be mindful of what you use to clean your windscreen

I had something similar happen to my 05LT this summer. I had it replaced under warranty. You really need to be careful about what you use to clean the stock windshield. Anything with ammonia in it can damage the windshield. (Windex for example).

I noticed something similar on my 2005 low Eurocut shiled, and also on my older LT's OEM shield.
My guess is that it's some sort of a scratch-resistant or scratch-preventive plastic foil laminated onto the shield material. Once it starts flaking that's pretty much it for the shield.
