Re: Yooper Mechanics? Clutch starting to slip.
Just a question, is the clutch slipping all the time? Does it seem to grip better after you ride it a bit? The reason I ask, is that a few years ago, on probably my first ride of the year, the clutch was slipping, then it was low on fluid. The slave cylinder was leaking and the fluid was running down the rod and contaminating the clutch plate. The fluid would dry off when I rode it, and the clutch would work better. This was all well and good until the fluid ran low and the slave cylinder would not have the travel needed.
At the time, of course, I didn't have the money to get it fixed, so I did it with the help of a write up here on the forum, the manual, and a good friend, who is more gifted than I. During the repair I drilled in the weep holes and reassembled. After finishing, I sprayed Brakleen into the clutch case weep hole several times, rode the bike and have put another 20,000 Michigan miles on the machine.
I do assume that one day, I will have to pay someone to change the clutch, my ADD makes it hard for me to finish projects, and I don't know if that friend will ever want to work with me again. But the other side of the coin is that this is a $25,000 plus machine to replace, so it should be possible to borrow a couple of grand from the Credit Union to keep it going for several more years.
Enough of my foolishness, hope you get what you want, and I hope your able to enjoy the results.
