Re: Best Place to Order Tires For K12LT

Motorcycle Superstores (Internet) has a deal with various dealers across the country. You buy the tire on the 'net, ship it to the dealer closest to you that acknowledges the program and they install it for $1. Although sometimes the dealer is reluctant to tell you up front, you can find out on the website.

I've done this for the last few years and it works. Plus MCSS has some great deals from time to time.

Re: Best Place to Order Tires For K12LT

You might want to get a price from the local dealer anyway. I found the closest shop to my house (3 miles) would order the Metzeler and the Bridgestone for the same price as I found on the internet.
It is worth the phone call.

Dennis Kirk (internet) was good for me - a reinforced Bridgestone rear for about $139

Re: Best Place to Order Tires For K12LT

Unless your going to install them yourself you may want to shop locally. Most shops charge a fairly healthy fee to install tires bought elsewhere. You may find your not saving much after all and also I like to support locals if they are willing to be somewhat competitive with the internet. I hadn't heard about the MCSS deal, hafta look into that.

American Mototire..........good prices and free shipping. Check them out and then check locally and compare prices. Their shipping is fast. I often get my tires within 3 days........

Re: Best Place to Order Tires For K12LT

Thanks for the information on tires. I am about 1 3/4 hours away from the nearest dealer. I have one of my riding buddies that has tire changer and will be able to install my tire, so mail order works best for me since I am located in the country.

+1 on using Dennis Kirk, but I've also sourced a couple of Amazon sellers and SouthwestMoto...

Agreed. For my K1200LT I use a very local motorcycle tire shop. His prices are right at or less than $5 above any internet deal I've found. With the discounted mounting deal on tires bought from him, it's very worth it. He charges MUCH more to mount tires not bought from him. Plus it's a husband and wife business. I'd much rather put my money in his pocket.
Even if I mounted my own tires I'd probably buy from him because his prices are that good.

Re: Best Place to Order Tires For K12LT

Believe it or not, it is possible to purchase a bad tire, one that is not as round as it should be!! If you buy it on the internet, then you pay someone to mount it, and you ride out, and it is wobbling to beat the band, you go back to the shop where you had it mounted, and they rotate the tire and show you it is out of round, not a bad bead seating, just a shitty tire!! Well, you pay them to take it off, you contact the supplier, they ship you another tire, you pay to put it back on, you can't ride your bike with the shitty tire, you waste a lot of time, good riding, money, and frustration, when you thought you were saving $20 bucks a tire.....Don't even ask me how I know about all this. Last time at the local Yamaha dealer, they quoted me a price for the tire I needed, I told them I could get it for $X and they gave me a much better price, and cheap install, no problems

Just ordered a rear for my K1600GTL from a local bike shop. Even with tax it was cheaper then I could find online.

Central Tx Powersports in Georgetown. I've bought tires from them for the last 8 years or so. They use to stock the Metz ME880 for the LT but don't know if they still do. They had to order the PR4GT for K16 but it will be here next week. I would call them to if they have your tire If I were you.
