The Curve Cowboy Reunion was originally an LTcentric gathering. Since the Light Truck went out of production, many LD and touring riders have moved over to K1600s, GSAs, RTs, or other brands. Still, many LTs are out there and having changed hands, there are numerous "new" LT owners. Many LTs still can be seen in the CCR parking lot and John Zeiler's LT tech seminars continue to be popular. I always wondered who "really" plans these organizations. I mean if anyone plans a "national" event for bike riders to gather at a place why they do not choose that location at a better access point from all four corners of our great country?

I bet it is one of the main reasons that many West coast riders don't join this event because it's location: Chattanooga, TN.

I hope one tray they realize this and choose a more centralized location.

It isn't held in one location every year, it moves to different cities of the country every year.

Another group I belong to for my Nomad gets the same gripe about not being centralized. This one moves the site around pretty good. As I always say, you can either go or not, no use getting upset by the location. I've ridden from FL to SD and to CO for rallies. If you can do it, do it; if not, live vicariously through the pictures people take.

I may be speaking out of turn since I haven't been to CCR, but it's a time issue for me, not a location issue. If you own one of the premier touring bikes on the planet, why would you want a rally in your back yard? Wouldn't all the way across country be better? JMTCW

I had already heard the call, and will be there on my LT. FYI - although I'm it's 3rd owner (second from California), it was originally bought at Bloodworth BMW in Nashville.

An event like the CCR is NOT a location specific traditional event like the Woodstock of the bikers.. Sturgis is that kind of event! It is like visiting the bikers Mecca... But CCR is a brand specific factory/club type of gathering where the location changes on a yearly basis.

Sure it will be fun to travel with the premiere touring bike but in order to do that do you really need an event like CCR?

I am not advocating that it should be in my back yard. I am advocating that it should be at a more centralized location every year where the furthest rider must not be more that 1500 miles away.

Now if roundtrip 3000+ mile and then some event riding mileage is not satisfying you, then more power to you my friend.

Apparently you just don't get what CCR is all about. It is not like any other rally out there. It started as a gathering of friends to talk about the K1200LT but has grown into more of a extended "Family" reunion. We choose a place that has a hotel to hold 300+- people with a banquet room for same. A place with great riding in the area. A place with lots of things to do in the area. It can be a challenge to find a hotel that meets all these things & is will to block out all their rooms for us at a lowered price sometime 2 to 3 years in advance. As for "Having" to ride across the country to get to a CCR goes, When we were in Vermont we had more members from the West coast then the East cost. That tell me that the people who want to go to CCR will go no matter where it is.
This will be my 8th CCR in a row. Will I go next year? Most likely will no mater where it is.

He is missing the point, I think half the fun of CCR is getting there! I know that when we ride out with John Z out to the western CCR's we have a blast doing our side trips just getting to CCR, as a matter of fact it is going to be weird this year for us since CCR is being held in my hometown...NO LONG RIDES!

I have seen parts of the country that I probably would have never seen (especially on a motorcycle) if not for CCR, and the nice folks that you get to meet.......priceless.

Quit your fussing and see what the "fuss" is all about, you'll be glad that you did.

BTW, the Board of Directors take MANY things into consideration before choosing a venu-site and they do a very good job. All of the CCR's that I have attended have been great locations..........attend a get-to-know-you breakfast at CCR and they will tell you ALL about CCR.

Last year it was a 6,032 mile trip and the wife's first long one in the saddle. She is disappointed that we won't have a long ride this year (2 hours tops if I take back roads).

Take the GS then it well seam like she has been on the bike for 6000 miles when you get there.

I am NOT able to go to the point and I am jealous about it.

When I was 32 yrs old (24 years ago) before I leave Europe and move to U.S. I ride thru Europe and Africa for 4 months. That was one of the most amazing experiences in my life.

I always admire those people who work year round and yet still able to take a week here and there and join the long rides like CCR or Sturgis or ocean yacht races etc.

I am a business owner and since last 4 years I couldn't join any birthdays of my grandchildren. BTW they live 45 miles away.

Your Grandkids live 45 miles away and you can't make a birthday party. I would walk 45 miles to get there. You do take a break to eat and sleep?

My GrandKids live less the 20 miles away & I only see them now & then. It is usually when my wife picks them up & they spend the weekend with us. As For taking time off for CCR & other things, I too am a business owner. Plus I am my only full time employee. I have a nephew & a good friend who take time off from their jobs to work for me when I need to go for a ride to clear my head. You just find a way to make it work. If I had to close my business for a week to go to CCR I would make that happen too. It is all a matter of priorities, Life is too short to work all the time.

Yea but how many birthdays do you miss?

Almost every one. My 18 year old granddaughter graduated High school this year & even missed that. She was just glad to get a text from me.

That's just sad.

Yea but we do what we have to do to see the kids get what they need. That is why I work so hard & play hard when I can. CCR is my play time. My granddaughter started riding with me when she was 10. Now the 2 grandsons are big enough to ride so we have our special time.

It is easy to talk from far away without walking in my shoes. While I am not going to those birthdays I am not sitting on the couch and watching TV.
For social reasons my grandkids' birthday parties are not organized as an evening event. They do it during noon on weekends so our kids' friends and their kids can join easily. And no I don't take breaks for siesta or lunch breaks during my work days.
Maybe I can have a cup of coffee while driving the boat! That's it!

If I could have the free time I'd crawl that 45 miles too.

Glad you get to spend some quality time with them, looking forward to my granddaughter being old enough to ride with me. My kids always loved it.

+2000! In order to make CCR a bit better, I'll go meet up with my Brotha from anotha mutha , Hallzee up in KC- some 700 miles east (taking the indirect route there will add another 700 miles and another day to the trip)

Just can't bear the thought of riding JUST two hours to CCR this year!

Kathy and I would have loved to go to TN this Summer for CCR but I just started a new job and don't have than many days off yet for the trip.
Distance is usually NOT a problem, but getting time off is a challenge.
Next year will be our 6th non-consecutive CCR, and it will be on our R1220RT unless I find a way to also keep the LT...
I will definitely miss seeing many friends this year... Yes Brett, that includes you too!

*Any* LT rider worth his salt can get anywhere in the country in 3 days.

That is the whole reason CCR is always the week leading up to Labor Day, starting on Tues, ending Friday night...3 days to get there and 3 days to get home; one week of vacation.

Probably the furthest we rode to a CCR was Boise. Left heading back home on Saturday around 7ish Mountain Time with Steve Shreeve, we broke off in Ogden (I didn't say break up did I), we made it to Limon Colorado that night, then to Marion Illinois the following night and then home by 4 PM EST on Labor Day, and this riding two up with the Mrs!
